THE WHO - A QUICK ONE

A rare and sought after original UK first pressing of this 1966 rock/mod classic on the matt textured REACTION record label, MONO 593 002

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  593002  A//2 with stampers "1 1" and "1 C" at 5.30 o'clock 

Side 2  593002  B//1 with stampers "1 1 8" at 8.30 o'clock

 The appearance of the thick vinyl is EXCELLENT. Beautifully shiny vinyl, completely flat and with both sides retaining much of their original jet black sheen. In normal daylight there are just a couple of very light and small surface scuffs on side 2 which are in evidence, and under a bright light a couple more very light surface-only marks and wispy hairlines come into view but all of these are of little significance and certainly non-intrusive to the overall excellent audio quality. The quality of both the appearance and actual condition of the vinyl is very impressive, especially considering it's 52 year old antiquity!

The original 1st pressing, blue matt textured labels are excellent-. In fact, they would be truly excellent were it not for a very faint biro initial on each label (see photos) along with a few light spindle line traces adjacent to the centre hole on each side. All silver text and the Reaction logo, on each label, are in perfect condition

The iconic laminated (both sides) outer sleeve is very good+. No nasty cardboard creasing and with all colouring still rich and vibrant, and barely any edge scuffing at all. The corners remain nicely defined right angles with minimal scuffing only, and the only blemishes of note are a number of 1cm laminate creases perpendicular and adjacent to the edges, some light laminate lifting adjacent to the spine, and a single "nick" in the middle of the spine adjacent to the "A" (see photo), There is also the merest hint of some ring wear on both the front and reverse sides but this is only noticeable when the sleeve is caught in the right light and at the right angle. 

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent. Great mono tone and clarity throughout even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No skips, no pops, and just the hint of a little background crackle only really noticeable (and even then you will need to listen carefully) at the beginning of each side and during a couple of the interludes. Brilliant rock on both side with every track making for a great listen.

Comes with original plain white inner sleeve which remains functional but does have a split at the centre of each side edge. Note that I always post the record(s) in a new plain white inner sleeve(s) in order to protect the original(s).

In summary a lovely copy of this rare and sought after 1966 UK 1st press vinyl rock gem, with the highlight being the excellent mono audio quality - a worthy addition to any serious record collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
