THE WHO LIVE AT LEEDS 1970 - VINYL RECORD
Track Records 2406 001
Run off Matrixes A2/42 0/B2/42 U
Sleeve by MacNeill Press London
One of the acknowledged best live albums of all time.  Live at Leeds was recorded at the University of Leeds on 14 February 1970 - 52 years ago.  The band wanted to show off their high octane live performance to rebalance perceptions of being 'arty' after the release of the "Tommy' rock opera.  The cover was designed to look like a bootleg as such records were popular at the time.  Reportedly there are only a very limited number of the initial edition with black letters on the cover (some reports say 300) and this was quickly changed to blue/red in slightly later editions. The poster was later changed from 'Live at the Marquee' to 'Live at Leeds' after a return visit to the University by the band.
This is an exceptional 1970 copy that has been with one owner since the seventies.  The record has been played little (as the owner put the album on tape).  The record was recently professionally cleaned.
The record is graded as EXCELLENT+ I can't see any significant marks and the record looks very to have been handled and played very Little.  Labels are clean with no tears or writing and the barest signs of spindle wear. The record plays cleanly with the expected occasional crackles (as the labels warn!)
The sleeve has stamped black letters on the front and black detail inside the left inner flap. It is graded in overall VERY GOOD condition and has survived very well for its age given its flimsy nature. There is wear to the central fold and the middle staple is missing (both end ones are intact).  There is a dymo label "The Who" stuck to the right inner flap.  Overall the sleeve is still functioning well and looks great and authentic with straight edges and only minor creasing.
The poster is the original 'Live at the Marquee' first edition in VERY GOOD condition.  Folded in its original 2 folds. This has been attached to a wall at some point and there is evidence of bluetack having been fixed to the corners. The top left hand corner has a small tear (see picture) but the majority of the poster is present so this could easily be repaired. The poster would look fantastic framed.
All the 11 period inserts are in VERY GOOD condition. Some of the flimsiest ones have minor corner creasing in some cases but nothing serious.
The original poly lined inner sleeve is still present with some creasing, ring wear and a little discolouring to the bottom edge.  The date code in the bottom is 0870 which dates this copy to 1970.
This is a very strong overall package and example of this landmark album.
Please look carefully at the pictures which are part of the description.
I broadly grade records according to on the 'Record Collector' grading guide. Note: I have added an additional '+' in this case as the record is so clean, some may have graded it Nr Mint.
The item will be sent packed out of the inner sleeve in a new poly lined inner and encased in a plastic outer sleeve and bubble wrap in a card record mailer with extra stiffener.
