Here for auction is a superb example of the iconic live album by THE WHO titled “LIVE AT LEEDS”, Catalogue Number 2406 001. This is an ORIGINAL *1970 UK 1st PRESSING* on the TRACK RECORD LABEL with the earliest A//1, B//1 Matrix Numbers, and 1st ISSUE MacNEILL PRESS FOLDOUT SLEEVE. Complete with ALL 12 INSERTS including the elusive 1st issue MARQUEE POSTER.   

The fragile foldout sleeve, printed and made by MacNeill Press Ltd., London, is in EX condition (strictly graded) with only very light general wear. The stamp on the front cover is blue. The internal pockets are still firmly attached by the 2 retaining staples. There is just one crease worth mentioning which is to the right pocket inside the opening gatefold near the centre. You can see from the photos that this one is a very well preserved example which should please most collectors.

The top quality Track record is very solidly pressed and sits flat and true on the turntable.

The Matrix Numbers and stampers are:

Visually both sides are in EX condition with only a few light surface marks evident under bright light. The white Track labels are unmarked with only a few light spindle traces near the centres. There is barely any wear around the spindle hole.

PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:

This is a particularly raw and vibrant recording which sounds sensational played at loud volume. All frequencies are crystal clear and there is no discernable deterioration in sound quality. Both sides play to a very high standard with only very low levels of unwanted noise (just occasional light surface sound which is never intrusive). Overall a great playing 1st press copy of this essential live album!

Complete with the 12 inserts which are all in EX condition. There is a crease to the top left corner of the ‘My Generation’ lyric sheet. The large foldout Poster is the earliest “MARQUEE” issue and is completely unmarked.

The plain white inner sleeve is also in EX condition.

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not cause any significant audio problems, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG+ Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.

PACKAGING & POSTAGE

Records are sent out in new “Wrapro” record mailers. These are rectangular and strong, providing excellent protection to the edges and corners. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
