This is a RARE UK 1st pressing of this album with the rare Black lettering printed in the inner sleeve and Blue in the outside with 11 inserts. It is one of the first issues of the 1st PRESS Blue lettering and the inside print is very dark BLACK.

There are different opinions about the relevance of the colour of the block title stamp on the front; some reference books only mention red and blue but undoubtedly a few BLACK stamps were among the EARLIEST FIRST ISSUE AND THEY WERE THE FIRST TO BE PRINTED. Having seen many, I am of the opinion that there were black and then blue and red genuine first pressings which were printed following the black printing. The printing was probably done in two runs, first printing the inside and then the outside. When the black printing was finished there were a small amount of sleeves that have been printed inside in black and the outside of this SMALL AMOUNT OF COPIES were then printed in Blue or Red.

The UK gatefold McNeil press sleeve is a genuine first pressing. This is thicker than all later pressings (see in the photo how stands!) and is in excellent condition with the staples firmly adhered although it has some marks and writing in the front. The buff card used for the ‘butterfly’ style opening cover with inner pockets was thicker on the first issues and had a slightly coarse finish - later ones were noticeably thinner and smoother. The inner pockets on these first ones were deeper. The spine is excellent with a minor 2 cm split in the top edge.

All UK FIRST PRESSINGS have the catalogue number 2406 001 followed by A//1 & B//1 MATRICES on the respective sides followed by low number stamper codes. The vinyl weight of UK TRACK first pressings were around 140 grammes, re-issues and later pressings were generally lighter. The vinyl is in NEAR MINT condition.

The white TRACK labels with blue facsimile handwriting, said to be Pete Townshend’s, with the notorious additional note ‘CRACKLING NOISES O.K. DO NOT CORRECT!’ are in very excellent condition with pale blue printing.

This copy contained 11 inserts which were as follows: -  Group photograph / Isle of Wight photo print / Premier Talent Woodstock Booking / Marquee Club Box Office summary / King’s Agency Locarno ballroom Swindon cancellation letter / EMI Records Ltd indecision letter / My Generation typed lyrics / New Action bookings form / The High Numbers payments slip / Notice Before Proceedings and Brocks Delivery Note.  The inserts range from excellent to near mint condition.

I am not a dealer but an amateur collector selling duplicated items or records that I no longer want to keep (mostly due to space). I do not clean records (other than a dust with anti-static) and unless indicated in the listing the records have been only visually inspected.

To show your record has arrived safely and you are happy, please leave feedback and I will reciprocate.

I offer reduced postage rates for combined multiple purchases. To protect the environment I recycle packing materials. Usually I post items on Thursdays.

Items are not insured and I will not be responsible for items lost or damaged in the post. All items are properly packaged and I always obtain proof of postage.  Should you want to insure the item by registered post, please let me know and I will find out the additional cost. Please note that, whilst it is comparatively rare for items to be lost or damaged in the post , my part of the transaction contract is legally completed as soon as the item is in the hands of the Post Office. I will not, therefore, accept responsibility for any loss or damage by the Postal Services. Whilst I am happy to provide help and advice, all such claims remain the responsibility of and must be made by the buyer.

If the bidding exceeds £39 in the UK the item will be ONLY sent insured by special recorded next day guaranteed delivery post (insured up to a value of £500) at a cost of £7. The above P&P quoted is for UK only and the same principal on insurance will apply to international bidders who will need to pay £5.7 insurance in addition to the p&p.
