The Who “Live At Leeds” original Track LP with all 12 inserts. Complete and in amazingly like-new condition!! The record looks unplayed and has perfect labels. It looks brand new, no issues at all! Not even a hair line mark! No marks of any description, even in strong light! As new! It has all of the new shine and gloss you expect from a truly MINT LP!! And the smell! The run-out grooves have “BILBO” and “DB” etched in them. This is from the cutting engineer. The friend I’m selling it for bought it new, played it a Maximum of ONE PLAY and put it away as he (believe this) didn’t like it!!! He remembers buying it in the old days, brand new, but can’t remember exactly when. The stampers are A//3 and B//3, making it a very early pressing for this huge-selling CLASSIC LP! The poly-lined inner sleeve is perfect and new, too, still white like the day it was made! The 12 inserts are like new, the poster has no marks or holes, and not even any finger marks! I doubt if it has ever been out of the sleeve! The other inserts have very clear printing, just like the very first pressings, although the paper stock is slightly thicker on some of them (better quality) and sometimes a different colour (white as opposed to yellow in one case), and the ink on the facsimile biro writing is black rather than blue as on the very first press inserts. I would think that this pressing is only weeks, or months at the most, after the very first, as the quality is SO high, apart from the very minor cosmetic differences mentioned above. I think these differences were introduced as the LP became a big seller, to streamline, or standardise, production and make the product more consistent – my own copy, bought the week it came out, has printing errors on one insert, for example, and by comparison, all of the printing here, on this copy is easily as good in every case, although black is often substituted as a pen colour. This is not one of the faded-vague-looking late-1970’s copies!! This is an early one, a very early one, and looks incredible! I’ve saved the description of the cover till last, as it is the best one I’ve seen in years and years! It looks better than my original copy did on the day I got it!! This is because it was locked away out of daylight from day one!!! This cover is completely un-yellowed, un-faded, and has no creases or marks at all. Any appearance of yellowing is due to the light I photographed it in, not the item itself! It is completely flat and brand-new looking with original untarnished silver staples, and no issues whatsoever. There is a tiny, tiny knock to the top right corner of the front cover, but this is really a trivial thing, as, to cite my own copy again, it was creased right across the top corners even when brand-new (to my disappointment). Not this copy. It really looks MINT and BRAND NEW!! The “Track Records” text on the inside front sleeve is in blue ink on this copy, unlike the first pressings, which had black interior text, regardless of the colour of the front stamp. Again, standardisation is happening at the time this copy was pressed. The front stamp is blue, darker than the first press blue stamp (first presses had either blue, red or black stamps on the front, as I remember, and I was there buying them in 1970, so I suppose I should know; again – standardisation for the unexpected rush of sales, and to keep all Who fans happy for the next several years! My opinion is that this LP was originally intended as a stop-gap between Tommy and Who’s Next, and expected to sell in tens of thousands at the most, but look what happens when you release a killer record! It never stops selling! “Live At Leeds” was intended to look like a hand-made bootleg LP, either because it was a hip look, or because it was intended to kill the market for poorly-recorded bootlegs of Who concerts which were prevalent at the time, and which weren’t paying any royalties to the artists. The hand-made ethic with all the real-looking inserts probably shot the record company in the foot, as they ended up having to make zillions of them! I honestly describe this copy of “Live At Leeds” as the best condition I’ve seen since the early 1970’s!! It is effectively new! There is no evidence of play wear or handling wear, the inserts are all as-new, and the sleeve looks like it was just printed yesterday! It rates VERY close to DEAD MINT, possibly the most fussy buyer may say it was MINT MINUS, but I think it deserves the full description above, rather than a one-word grading. The one word would be MINT, if you asked me. Check my feedback, people often say that my LPs are much better than I grade them, and I’m saying MINT here! This is not a “first press”, which can be a moot point in collecting circles, but it is a very early pressing, and has all of the quality of an early pressing, made more apparent by the AMAZING CONDITION! It like a time-machine copy! Absolutely as it was on the day it was bought! Incredible!! No yellowing at all on any part of it. You will not be disappointed! I dug out my original for the comparisons, and it looked geriatric and tired/worn out, when placed next to this one. Mine was well looked after, as I always was a fanatic about LPs that I spent money on, but my own LP sleeve is all brown down the left side, and the inserts were looked at (who could blame me!) and handled, but not this copy! It is just as it left the shop. You’ll never see a better copy. If you buy on condition, go for it now!! Whew!! It HAS to be worth £35.00 !!!!! What a great LP, too!! It’s the best copy you’ll see! After touring the USA for several years, and having to play really exhaustive long sets, The Who just blitzed the UK for a year or two following, and here is the definitive record of the band at their live peak! Most LPs look close to MINT, and all have been fastidiously well looked after from new in protective sleeves, including the copies from the 1960’s. All have been carefully played, of course, so an EX+ is about as good an honest grade as you will see. Even with no marks, if it is played it cannot accurately be described as MINT! That is an absolute “still in the shop” condition to me. But trust me that All are high grade with any defects noted, no matter how trivial.
