THE WHO - MY GENERATION

A truly impressive copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1965 UK original, very first pressing rock classic, on the BRUNSWICK label, MONO LAT 8616

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  MG - 10256 - 1B with stampers "2 0" and "1 1" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively, and the "KT" tax code at 12 o'clock

Side 2  MG - 10257 - 1B with stampers "1" and "1 1" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively, and the "KT" tax code at 12 o'clock

The appearance of the flat, thick vinyl is excellent (EX). Gleaming vinyl with jet black lacquering and in normal daylight no obviously detectable marks at all. It is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that I could identify a number of small wispy hairlines and very light paper scuffs...each of these is non-feelable, not below the surface and purely superficial. There is also a 1cm hairline on track 1, side 2 that does cause some light background clicking, and the only "feelable" hairline, 5mm in length, on track 3, side 2 which results in x25 light background clicks. Taking these blemishes into account I would grade the overall condition of the vinyl as a solid very good (VG).

The labels are excellent (EX). Beautiful, original black matt textured labels with no unwanted writing or marks, and the BRUNSWICK logos, on both the side 1 and side 2 labels, perfectly intact, as is all of the silver text. There are some light spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole but these are not especially intrusive.

The front-laminated Robert Stace outer sleeve is very good plus (VG+). Such an iconic sleeve, and this one remains highly presentable with minor blemishes only. Each of the edges are nice and firm with no cardboard creasing at all and, remarkably, no scuffing either. Each corner remains an almost perfectly defined right angle with minimal rubbing only and the opening edges are firm with virtually no fraying at all. The colours on the front side remain vibrant, crisp and clear and all text on the reverse side is intact and perfectly legible. The spine (with 1st pressing "nipped" ends) remains in great shape also and again with all spine text remaining completely intact. The only blemish of note is some mild age disolouration towards the edges on the reverse side. Impressive.

Finally, the quality of the audio is very good plus (VG+) overall. No skips, no jumps, no repeats, no nasty loud clicks, no obvious background crackle, and overall great tone and clarity. There is no question that each track on this album still makes for a great listen but there are some blemishes, albeit relatively minor...there are some occasional clicks (I counted x6 on track 1, x4 on track 2, and x3 on track 3 all on side 1; x9 on track 1, and x25 on track 3, all on side 2 - these may not be the only ones) but these are light, background clicks which are not especially intrusive (some of them would be if this was a quiet folky type record, but it's not).  This is not audio perfection but what you have to remember is that this is a 54 year old record which has had a fair number of plays (underplayed for it's age I would say) and then stored away for 40 years or so! Each track, including those tracks with some light clicking, still makes for a great listen in my opinion...but if you are looking for audio perfection (I'm not sure that you will ever find it on a true very 1st pressing of this record) then you should not bid.

The tracks are :

Side 1 :

1. OUT IN THE STREET

2. I DON'T MIND

3. THE GOOD'S GONE

4. LA-LA-LA-LA-LIES

5. MUCH TOO MUCH

6. MY GENERATION

Side 2 :

1. THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT

2. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

3. IT'S NOT TRUE

4. I'M A MAN

5. A LEGAL MATTER

6. THE OX

Comes with original poly lined inner sleeve, with "Made in England" and "U.K. Patent..." texts and with no tears or splits and still in excellent and fully functional condition. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a very nice, highly presentable copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1965 UK original pressing rock/beat classic - a "must" for any serious 1960's vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

If this record interests you then take a look at my other 60's & 70's classic vinyl listings.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for almost 50 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but during the past 30 years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boot sales, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I am now retired and take great delight in being able to spend more time scouring the country and attending boot sales and auctions in the hope of unearthing more vinyl gems...I am 64 years of age now and am still discovering bands and music of the 60's and 70's that I have never come across before. Wonderful! Richard

My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

For this item postage & packaging will be UK £4.00, Royal Mail 1st class signed for; continental Europe £9 and Rest of the World £13, Royal Mail 1st class tracked and signed for.

I DO discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage.

Good luck with your bidding!

NOTE : My vinyl descriptions comply with the official Record Collector vinyl grading guidelines :

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
