Description

THE WHO - MY GENERATION
Rare and sought after 1965 UK very 1st pressing of this WHO debut classic on the BRUNSWICK label, MONO LAT 8616
Matrix Numbers :   Side 1  MG-10256-1B with stampers "2 0" and "G G" at 9 o'clock and 3 o' clock respectively Side 2  MG-10257-1B with stampers "1" and "A" at 10 o'clock and 4 o' clock respectively
To my knowledge these are the earliest available matrices for this release, making this a true UK very 1st pressing
The appearance of the vinyl (thick, heavy and completely flat) is excellent-. Each side of the vinyl has retained much of it's original sheen and has an impressive appearance, with all of the deep matt grooves remaining well defined and true. There are a few scuff marks which are visible under normal daylight conditions, including one on side 2 which starts from the centre of the label and goes across half the radius of the vinyl. Careful inspection under a bright light reveals a further number of wispy hairlines and small paper scuffs all of which are non-"feelable" and nothing obviously below the surface.
The condition of the Robert Stace front-side laminated sleeve is good+. Although the colour of the front cover photo has retained it's rich vibrancy there is mild ring wear, mild creeasing in the bottom left hand corner, a number of obvious 1-2cm laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the edges, and also some mild fraying on the opening edge. the reverse side suffers from obvious age discolouration, a 3cm tear towards the top left hand corner, and a 1.5cm tear in the middle of the bottom edge. There is some minor scuffing on the spine and a number of small creases also, but apart from the "k" in "Brunswick" all of the writing remains legible (as does all of the text on the reverse side).
The matt textured labels are very good+. All the text and original colouring remain nicely intact with just a number of light spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole along with a few pencil thin scuffs on the side 2 label. There is also a name ("LVenn") on the side 1 label - it's barely noticeable but it's there (see photo). I have tried to show these faults as clearly as possible in my photos.
Finally, the quality of the audio is VG+.  Actually, at times the audio quality is excellent ie the last 4 tracks of side 2, but there is some occasional, mild background crackle. This is more noticeable at the beginning of each side (side 2 especially), at the end of side 1, and during some of the quieter moments. The first track on each side each contain some noticeable crackle but even then not sufficiently intrusive to spoil the listening experience which, though not perfect, is still enjoyable even for these tracks.
Side 1 : 1. OUT IN THE STREET 2. I DON'T MIND 3. THE GOOD'S GONE 4. LA-LA-LA-LIES 5. MUCH TOO MUCH 6. MY GENERATION
Side 2 : 1. THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT 2. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE 3. IT'S NOT TRUE 4. I'M A MAN 5. A LEGAL MATTER 6. THE OX
Comes in the original poly lined TRACK inner which does have some minor creasing but no tears or splits and still fully functional.
In summary, a nice and definitely collectible (and highly enjoyabe listen) of this very first pressing of this sought after 1965 WHO debut classic, despite it's obvious blemishes.   If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.   If this record interests you then take a look at my other listings for more 50's, 60's and 70's classic vinyl.
A bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 48 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but over the years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boots, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I never intended selling any of my records but now I am retired and a combination of space requirements (caused partly by duplication) and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.
My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy.
On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.
For this item postage & packaging will be Royal Mail 1st class  : UK £3.00, continental Europe £5, and Rest of the World £9.  I do discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage.
Good luck with your bidding! Richard
Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :
Mint : The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. Excellent : The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.  Very Good : The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.  Good : The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.  Fair : The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced. Poor : The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.  Bad : The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
