THE WHO SELL OUT, 1967 UK TRACK 1st PRESS

From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional example of the third studio album by THE WHO titled ‘THE WHO SELL OUT’, Catalogue Number 613 002. This is an original 1967 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the TRACK RECORDS LABEL with the earliest Av2, Bv1 Matrix Numbers and a superb fully-laminated E. J. Day sleeve.

The fully-laminated single sleeve, printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd., is in EX+ condition with only the lightest signs of wear and a few minor creases. The front and back covers are unmarked. The spine is square and solid with perfect text. You can see from the photos that is a truly excellent sleeve. I think that it will be almost impossible to find a better one! 

The top quality Track record is solid and inflexible with a square-cut rim edge. It retains a deep mirror-like shine and the playing surfaces are spotlessly clean.  

The matrix numbers and stampers are:

Side 1 – 613002   Av2     

Side 2 – 613002   Bv1    1   2   3     

Visually the record is in EX condition with just a few wispy sleeve-removal type surface marks, in addition to one noticeable surface mark on Track 1 of Side 1. With the exception of this surface mark (see below) these are only cosmetic and of no audio significance whatsoever. The matt black Track labels are unmarked with only a few short spindle traces near the centres. There is no wear to the spindle hole. I can confirm that the record has only been played a few times using a top quality cartridge with a light tracking weight. 

PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:

This is a top quality Track pressing which plays with outstanding sound quality. The stereo mix is very different to the mono and in my opinion is superior. The stereo playback is louder cut than the mono (which is quite unusual) with more detail and better instrument separation. The record plays essentially as new. There is no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. The surface mark mentioned above causes a few soft ticks which are really not intrusive and only noticeable during the quiet radio announcement before the music starts. This is the only blemish on an otherwise perfect vinyl. I think that it will be almost impossible to find another copy of this standard.

The correct white poly-lined inner sleeve is in VG condition with a few creases and a short nick to one opening edge.

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects. Still a very presentable sleeve.

PACKAGING

Records are sent out in new “Wrapro” record mailers. These are rectangular and strong, providing excellent protection to the edges and corners. Records are removed from both inner and outer sleeves in order to prevent seam-splits in transit.
