Description

THE WHO - THE WHO SELL OUT
Rare and sought after 1967 UK very 1st pressing of this WHO classic on the TRACK label, MONO, 612002
Matrix Numbers :   Side 1  612002 A 2 with stampers "11" and "2" at 1.30 and 2.30 o' clock respectively Side 2  612002 B 1 with stampers "11" and "1" at 1.30 and 2 o' clock respectively
To my knowledge these are the earliest available matrices for this release, making this a true UK very 1st pressing
The appearance of the vinyl (thick, heavy and completely flat) is excellent. Each side of the vinyl has retained much of it's original sheen and has a truly impressive appearance, with all of the deep matt grooves remaining well defined and true. Careful inspection under a bright light reveals a few wispy hairlines and small surface paper scuffs all of which are non-"feelable".
The condition of the Ernest J. Day laminated sleeve is very good. There is barely any scuffing on any of the edges at all - quite rare in itself considering it's 50+ year old antiquity. The spine, with nipped ends, is also rigid with all writing perfectly legible and the corners remain well defined right angles with only minimal rubbing. There is a light 7cm diagonal crease located at the bottom left corner on the front side and some further sporadic light laminate creasing/lifting on both the front and reverse side. Nothing serious.
The matt textured labels are very good+. All the text and original colouring remain nicely intact with just a number of light spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole.
Finally, the quality of the audio is VG+.  There is some intermittent light background crackle which is more noticeable at the beginning of each side (particularly the end of side 1 and beginning of side 2). This is frustrating because there is no obvious reason for this - presumably it's down to decades of storage and dirt in the grooves, so a professional clean may well cure. I noticed just two mild background "pops" on each of track 5 side 1 and track 4 side 2. I have to say that most of the audio quality is truly excellent - as I type this I'm listening to "Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand" and the reproduction is perfect. Each track makes for a great listen. It brings back memories...
Side 1 : 1. ARMENIA CITY IN THE SKY 2. HEINZ BAKED BEANS 3. MARY ANNE WITH THE SHAKY HAND 4. ODORONO 5. TATTOO 6. OUR LOVE WAS 7. I CAN SEE FOR MILES
Side 2 : 1. CAN'T REACH YOU 2. MEDAC 3. RELAX 4. SILAS STINGY 5. SUNRISE 6. RAEL (1 and 2)
Comes in the original poly lined TRACK inner which does have some minor creasing and a couple of small "nicks", but still fully functional.  I will also supply a new white inner.
In summary, a nice and definitely collectible (and highly enjoyable listen) of this very first pressing of this sought after 1967 beat classic, despite it's obvious blemishes.   If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.   If this record interests you then take a look at my other listings for more 50's, 60's and 70's classic vinyl.
A bit about myself : I have been collecting vinyl for more than 48 years and have amassed a huge collection covering a varied genre, but mostly of 1960's and 70's origin. Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but over the years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boots, auctions, and even through putting up a "vinyl wanted" notice in my wife's shop! I never intended selling any of my records but now I am retired and a combination of space requirements (caused partly by duplication) and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell many of my much loved gems.
My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no quibble" refund policy.
On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.
For this item postage & packaging will be Royal Mail 1st class  : UK £3.00, continental Europe £5, and Rest of the World £9.  I do discount post & packaging costs for multiple purchases. I do NOT profit from postage.
Good luck with your bidding! Richard
Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :
Mint : The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. Excellent : The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.  Very Good : The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.  Good : The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.  Fair : The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced. Poor : The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.  Bad : The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
