The Who : Sell Out A2/B1 1st Stereo Press 1967 (Track Record)
This first stereo pressing on the Track Record label has to be the most stunning example I have ever heard. The clarity and depth of the audio is incredible and there is basically no interference. No ticks, clicks or pops and only a 3/4 seconds of minor static! Admittedly the sound on 'I Can See For Miles' is not quite as clear but then it is the final track on S1 so in a sense it is to be expected, it still plays extremely well though! All the inter song announcements / ads play with sublime clarity also. The vinyl does have some hairlines but these can really only be seen when you tilt the vinyl at a certain angle under a strong light. There are obviously no scratches.
The cover is absolutely stunning! With no obvious wear it could hardly look any better. There is no poster with this first pressing and it does not have the Free Poster Inside sticker on it either. The inner sleeve is also in excellent condition.
As this is a genuine first press it has the A2/B1 matrix and the cover is laminated on both sides.

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T7 Ex+)
The audio on S2 is Mint(-) (T6 Near Mint)
The laminated cover is Near Mint-
The labels are Near Mint-
The inner sleeve is Ex+
The vinyl is in excellent condition with a very impressive glossy sheen and has no scratches. There are a couple of minor blemishes on S2 but they have no affect on the superb audio and you can only see them when you hold the vinyl under a bright light at a certain angle. There are some hairlines also but again these are superficial and have no impact on the audio. The run out grooves are very clean and the Track Record labels are unmarked with only a little spindle wear.
Play grading
The first 'announcement' is close to perfect with the lightest of static at the end and then 'Armenia City In The Sky' plays with stunning quality with no interference. The clarity of sound and the power of the audio is so impressive and this is definitely a Mint- start to the side.
'Heinz Baked Beans' then plays like it has never been played before! The playback is exceptional and this has to be graded as Mint such is the quality.
'Mary Anne With The Shaky Hands' continues this fine start and plays with sublime clarity from start to finish with no background of any kind. I cannot emphasise enough just how clear and precise the audio is - there is no distortion and the sonic quality is just incredible. Another Mint track.
The intro on 'Odorono' is faultless Townshend opening vocal is just as strong. As it progresses I am again struck by the sheer clarity on offer here as there is just no background. There is nothing that detracts from the audio and once again Mint is more than deserved.
'Tattoo' plays with sensational quality throughout without any interference. The clarity and definition could not be any stronger and Daltrey's vocal here is as clean and precise as you would want it to be. There is no 'muddiness' or distortion on the sound. Mint
The intro on 'Our Love Was' is perfect and from then on plays as per the preceding tracks. There are no negatives - a 'busy' track and yet there is no distortion worthy of mention and grades as Mint again.
The classic 'I Can See For Miles' plays with genuine quality and no interference. You could say the audio is perhaps not quite as 'clean' as the rest of the side but it is the final track which commonly do not play to the same standard. This is vinyl! Don't get me wrong it still plays with superb audio so I would say Ex+ is fair - what a side though, it does not get much better than this!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
S2 begins with another as new 'ad' and then 'Can't Reach You' plays with no ticks, clicks, pops or static. Perfect clarity basically so grades as Mint
'Medac' is of the same standard. No need to elaborate! Mint
'Relax' provides more evidence of a vinyl so well preserved with superb audio through every vocal and instrumental section. Another Mint version.
Entwistle's opening vocal on 'Silas Stingy' could not play with any greater clarity and this standard is kept up throughout. Honestly I cannot believe how well it plays! There is not even a single tick let alone anything more. Mint
The acoustic intro on 'Sunrise' plays beautifully with no intrusion and it continues to play with a clarity that is just out of this world! Not ticks, clicks etc just pure Mint audio from the first note to the last.
The intro on 'Rael (1 and 2)' is just as clear and from then on the playback is very impressive indeed. There is no obvious distortion and the clarity really cannot be faulted. There is a 'tinny' sound on the second half but it is only minor and does not intrude on the quality of the listen in my opinion. Near Mint is a fair assessment of the audio. As this is a first pressing it of course ends with a snippet of audio inside a locked groove so you have to manually lift the stylus.
In summary this first pressing plays with stunning audio and remarkably there are no ticks, clicks or pops and only a couple of seconds of very quiet static! This has to be the 'cleanest' version I have ever listened to and whilst the sound isn't as clear on 'I Can See For Miles' this in a way is expected as described above. A very clean vinyl that more than lives up to its expectations with a superb cover also.
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The E.J. Day Patent Pending cover is in superb condition with no obvious wear and has very much retained its original shape and structure. The edges and thin pinched spine have no wear / rubbing and as can be seen even the corners are near perfect with barely any wear. The opening edge has no obvious handling wear either. The front cover is unmarked with no laminate damage or creasing and the back cover is just as impressive really. It has just a tiny crease bottom left and a small sticker top right. A stunning first press cover.
The original poly-lined inner (dated 117) is in great condition with no side splits or tears, minimal creasing and only a couple of minor spots and minimal age related fading around the edges.
