Description

THE WHO AND THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK. 1969.

M.C.A. SPECIAL MARKETS, SERIAL 734586.

Here's another one for the serious collector, an extremely rare promotional album from the USA.

In 1969, the Philco electronics company teamed up with Ford Motors to jointly promote Philco car radios. MCA Special Markets Division set about releasing an album containing music from two of the most popular bands around at the time. I think the deal was, if you had a Philco radio fitted into your car you received a copy of the album. It never went on sale at any conventional stores, making this the only way to obtain a copy. The Strawberry Alarm Clock were a psychedelic band from California, at the time having had a big hit in 1967 named "Incense and peppermints".  I'm pretty sure you know who the other band are!  You can see the tracklistings in the photos' so I will just give the gradings.

The sleeve, still in it's original shrink wrap, is a thick card type, showing paintings of both bands on the front.  On the back are the tracklistings, and a synopsis of both the bands. Also on the back, top right hand corner, it states "Stereo  Limited Edition Collector's Copy". The sleeve is solid except for an area on the bottom where the shrink has worn away, revealing a small amount of scuffing to the card (photo 8). The spine is undamaged and all wording is clear. Top edge is solid, and the opening edges are flat with no feathering. The back of the sleeve has written on it "SACCO", which I assume stands for Strawberry Alarm Clock ? ? This is under the shrink wrap, so must have been done at factory.

The record is still shiny and clean, minimal faint surface marks when held to light, and NO scratches. Labels are clean with no tears or stains. A couple of spindle marks, again only visible when held towards light. Easily rates Excellent.

It's a difficult one to find, especially in this condition. Given the fact that it never actually went on sale makes it a rare thing indeed. One for the serious collector.
