Hello there, and thank you for viewing my items!
Having had rather a lengthy hiatus, I'm back to sell more of my collection/ 2nd copies/ records I think might be of interest to others. In previous years I've sold very rare PROG, 60s, PUNK etc, ranging from cheap record right up to £1000 records, and have invariably got good feedback. However, having been away from selling for so long I realise I need to build up current positive feedback again, hence I'm listing many items at buy it now prices, please check out my current, and coming here at my other items! Or to get the heads up on my listings before others even add me to your favourites list!
Here we have the very rare 1966 barely charting single, THE WHO'S The Kids Are Alright B/W The Ox. This was the penultimate single released on the Brunswick, and represents the middle release of the triad of singles released by Brunswick after the band had actually left the label, and indeed this single wasreleased directly after Brunswick (Decca) had successfully sued THE WHO for reusing the title "Instant Party" on the B-side of their first single for the new Reaction label. But that's another story, this touched the charts for a couple of weeks in the 40s, can't recall if it made it up into the 30s or not, either way, it sold shockingly badly for such rising stars, with such previous hits, and the answer to that in no small part must be that both the A and B side of this record were recorded the previous year, and indeed released and no doubt owned by most Who fans on their previous year's debut album My Generation. There didn't seem much point at the time a Who fan buying their last years output, that they probably already owned. However it todays market, that makes this one of the last titles most Who collections need, as so many people want it, and so few were ever in circulation, and even less today! These factors make it a toss up for me as to which is the rarest generally released 60s WHO single, this, their next La-La-La-Lies (final singlefor Brunswick), or their incredibly limited Track release in aid of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' legal fees, The Last Time/ Under My Thumb (rumoured to be the rarest single on track)...
There are two variants to this single, regarding the "Original recording and Licenced by Decca Records..." text located on each label at about 2 o'clock, some have that text spaced over 4 lines, and some (I belive fewer) have it spaced over 3 lines. This is one such 3-line variant. The stamper/lacquer codes are the very early 1U (2nd lacquer) and 1K (4th laquer) respectively.
This is a well played copy, however, it is a very highly sought after single, and one that most Who collections are lacking, therefore I offer it up here as a fine playing (with background noise) collection filling copy!
LABELS: VG-, The A-side is in nice shape all round, but for a "G" written on at about 4 o'clock (angled into the light in the photos to make more apparent). The B-side has a similar "G" in a similar place, but also a little of the paper has come away (presumably in removalof a label of some kind in the past), on the push-out centre disc. Ironically if the central push-out was not present, the B-side labels might look more crisp! The centre is perfectly attatched on all 4 prongs, and the label tearing is limited to the central disc.
VINYL: VG-, No feelable marks, just ALOT of surface marks, doesn't look like a lovely black mirror, but plays really strongly (Shel Talmy's mixes, indeed many Beat/Mod mixes of this period cut through beautifully over a bit of surface marks), with a bit of background noise in the quieter passages (not that there is much of that on this single!)
SLEEVE:VG-/VG , This is this records original sleeve, (it has the catalogue number written in the top right-hand corner), and so it is a good guage as to the single's life, general handling wear,a small sticker removal graze on the back top left, a little wear along the top opening mouth edges and the die-cut central edges, but no tears, orwear-throughs, no graffitti other than the original catalogue number,so pretty good, above average for a mod single's sleeve I'd say, but no museum piece!
