Description
This is a truly stunning copy of the rare 1939 original first edition release of the soundtrack for the Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland. Released on four 78rpm records in a beautiful Decca album, number 74. It was later reissued in 1950 with a different cover, but this is the rare very first version from 1939. This is truly a top copy, too. Over the years I have seen a handful of this set, but usually it is in fairly poor condition. Kids listened to these records and they were generally not treated well, so few have survived intact or in playable condition at all. This copy is amazingly well-preserved. All four discs are excellent, with just a touch of light wear, but really barely. They look incredible, with all their original shine and only a few light marks, and they play just beautifully with no noise, pops, or problems at all. The last disc, the one with Off to See the Wizard, has a minor edge chip, but it is still in absolutely lovely shape and plays near flawlessly. The cover is also in nearly unheard-of good condition, with an intact spine and binding. A little light wear, but really not much. The binding is just a little bit loose so you need to treat it very carefully, but it is still intact and quite solid. I really can't say I have ever seen a better copy. The music on the records is just wonderful, too, featuring all the favorite songs, and even the omitted song, The Jitterbug, which was filmed but edited out of the final cut of the movie. DLA-1854 / 2674 - If I Only Had a Brain / If I Only Had a Heart - Victor Young and his Orchestra with vocals under the direction of Ken Darby.
DLA-1848 / 2675 - The Merry Old Land of Oz / We're Off to See the Wizard - Victor Young and his Orchestra with vocals under the direction of Ken Darby.
As I say, all these discs play absolutely beautifully and the cover is gorgeous. This is a very rare, top original copy of this classic set.
