This one is the first original mono and deep-grooved pressing of Prestige Records LP-7053 "THELONIOUS MONK QUINTETS". Comes with alternate cover which has Monk's picture on the front.
This one is an original issue, in 1954, from Prestige Records, not a reissue version by OJC or Classic Records. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in 1954, with "RVG" etched on the dead wax of both sides. Deep Groove on both labels. Labels address: PRESTIGE RECORDS INC., 446 W. 50th., ST., N.Y.C. Very rare in this condition.
Artists Include: Thelonious Monk (piano), Sonny Rollins and Frank Foster (tenor saxophone), Ray Copeland (trumpet), Curry Russel and Percy Heath (bass), Julius Watkins (french horn), Willie Jones and Art Blakey (drums).
The vinyl played NM on both sides. Music is very nice. It look shiny and bright under the bright light.
The cover is NM-. Strong, no crack, no split. Just small paper loss on lower seam and small sticker with writing on the back cover (please see picture no.2).
The record is play graded as well as visually. I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws.
My grading is as follows: M (perfectly like new), NM, NM-/VG++, VG+, VG, VG-, G, G-.
