New York City art-popper Nate Amos, of Water From Your Eyes fame, has been making music under his solo moniker This Is Lorelei for years, but this is the first time he set out to make a proper album. Amos opts to go for a smorgasbord of styles and excels in Americana songwriting; the opening track is quite trad with violin strings and an emotional duet set to a pared back rhythm section. Elsewhere, 'Perfect Hand' is anti-electronia - a really minimal 4/4 beat, with very little in the way of ornamentation and proves to be a stylish underpinning to the life-affirming lyrics: "I don't mind the present and I like the past/I think that the future's worth it." This minimal approach is in contrast to the chamber pop number 'Two Legs', which is where he opens his wings and let's in the different layers; he has a Sufjan Stephens-esque majesty here. Clearly Amos is operating at a really high level with as many talents as a Swiss army pocket knife.
