Description

IF YOU'VE BEEN WATCHING THESE AUCTIONS, you'd know I have a soft spot for these 1925 Victor early electrical records. I've collected them for years, have a whole section devoted to them.  I've got two perfectly good reasons for liking them so much: 1) As the earliest recordings in modern, up-to-date electrical sound, it's our first glimpse of the world of dance music and jazz in clear, unobstructed fidelity; and 2), by co-incidence, at this same time, Dance Orchestras and Jazz Bands were at their most uninhibited and snappiest. So, some perfectly delightful music got recorded right from the git-go of the electrical period.

AND YET, people overlook these! FOR SHAME!

Here are three prime examples, all from 1925:

VICTOR 19648:  WARING'S PENNSYLVANIANS "Collegiate" and "Look at Those Eyes."  Of all bandleaders active in 1925, Fred Waring was the quickest to grasp the significance of the electrical microphone, and immediately included effects - like the "Sotto Voce" sections on "Collegiate" -   that would have been impossible with the Acoustic system.  He was a highly inventive guy, who made a fortune with every bartender's best friend, the Waring Blender!  Condition: E

VICTOR 19655 MEYER DAVIS' LE PARADIS BAND:  "Bye and Bye" The Davis 'Le Paradis' band was known in the trade as a "whispering orchestra," that is, with no brass, only reeds and rhythm.  The better to keep the police unaware of your Speakeasy, where "Speaking Easily" was a MUST.  / WARING'S PENNSYLVANIANS:  "Does My Sweetie Do - And How!" More of the above from Fred.  Condition: EE-

VICTOR 19685 THE BENSON ORCHESTRA OF CHICAGO "I Had Someone Else Before I Had You (and I'll Have Someone After You've Gone)." A very chipper song about a totally antisocial guy! / "Oh! How I Miss You Tonight."  This was the Benson Orchestra's ONLY electrical record, after a run of several years with Victor.  Condition: EE-

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
