THREE EYES OF THE VOID from Ukraine present us with ''The Atheist'' an Atmospheric Black Metal release that is also their debut. The album is about a soaring, painful exploration of what it means to be human, the constant battle between what is right and wrong and how the latter always seems to win. The nine-minute opus ''Behind The Stars'' begins with a shimmering guitar, the last glimpse of sunlight before it falls from grace. Like the orange blanket that covers the horizon as the sun sets and darkness envelops the world, cold, ominous guitars, drums and bass enter the soundscape and autumn begins. The vocals are pained and shrill, but have a force that makes them less aggressive and more reflective. The second song ''Against the One'' is a savage fury of tremolo guitars, furious blast beats and driving cymbal work. In some ways, the band evokes elements of DISSECTION and even BLUT AUS NORD, but with less of the dissonance and fury of those bands. That's not to say that THREE EYES OF THE VOID aren't angry - anger is part of the genre after all, but the band is rather sad at their best. The final song ''The Atheist'' is deceptively triumphant, but has a riff-heavy melody at its core and represents the end of the beginning of everything. ''The Atheist'' is a triumphant work. There are moments on the album that are all about pure sadness, and then these are interrupted by short bursts of hope and acceptance. So it's definitely worth a listen! The red/black galaxy 180g vinyl edition is limited to only 100 copies and comes with a gatefold cover.
