offbeat 1966 Blue Note jazz jukebox EP
The Three Sounds were one of the most popular artists on Blue Note Records during the late '50s and '60s, thanks to their nimble, swinging, blues-inflected mainstream jazz. Since their records sounded interchangeable and their warm, friendly jazz was instantly accessible, many critics dismissed the group at the time as lounge-jazz, but in the '90s, critical consensus agreed that the group's leader, pianist Gene Harris, was an accomplished, unique stylist whose very ease of playing disguised his technical skill.
Similarly, his colleagues, bassist Andrew Simpkins and drummer Bill Dowdy, were a deft, capable rhythm section that kept the group in an appealing, bluesy groove.
This mini Lp is four songs from their 1966 Blue Note 'Vibrations' album. It includes "The Frown," "Let's Go Get Stoned," "It Was A Very Good Year" and "Something You Got."
Although jazz is usually thought of as a LP sort of thing, there were very limited numbers of jazz 45s made in the late '50s and early '60s, generally intended for jukeboxes. These were tough to find at the time as they didn't sell well, and now some forty years later are even more so. Spending most of their useful life in a juke, they were hardly ever handled by a human and remain in super shape with hardly a mark on them.
CONDITION: Never opened loose baggy sleeve. Includes full title strips and album cover inserts too.
