For all the turbulence of his private life of late Thurston Moore has maintained a steady output of reliably incendiary material that bears all the hallmarks of the sound that he helped shape alternative rock with via his quarter-century-plus tenure in Sonic Youth. The Best Day, which features members of both his old band (Steve Shelley) and My Bloody Valentine (Debbie Goodge) may be somewhat more raucous than his last de facto solo effort, 2011's Demolished Thoughts, yet it chronicles a muse that's both as restless and paradoxically youthful as ever, dealing out dissonance, Television-style guitar workouts, angry screeches and sweet pop suss as only this eternal punk rocker knows how.
