Description
Hello there, and welcome to my auctions! For information about this specific record please scroll down to the blue text below! Thanks!
During this national lockdown, I started to sort through some of my mountains of rare records, at first pulling out ones I didn't play as much as I should, or else ones that I've since upgraded from. However as time has gone on I have done some soul searching, and have actually pulled out some of the biggest titles I have in my collection (and the ones that were kind of my investment plan for if I fell on hard times!), this week, I offer some of them to you, I have focussed on rare Psych (Tea and Symphony, Forest, Dr Strangely Strange, Vashti Bunyan's first single, and other rare Harvest and Vertigo titles to name a few), Folk (Tickawinda! Clive's Original Band, Anne Briggs, The Pennine Folk, The Incredible String Band, The Famous Jug Band etc.) Prog (Pink Floyd, E.L.P. Bakerloo, Climax Blues Band, early Black Sabbath), some very rare Jazz (Michael Garrick Trio, Helen Merrill) some rare signed LPs including THE BYRDS! And some super rare Beatles (Megarare SOLID CENTRES including Paperback Writer, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Beatles' Hits, Twist and Shout EP etc. And some rare LPs Gold Parlophone, A Hard Day's Night "Know" mispress, XEX-606-1, Sgt.Peppers omits A Day In The Life. and ... if I can bring myself to, my VAULT COPY of the Mono One Box Label of Please Please Me... Don't hold me to that, I might chicken out and find a better day to take photos!)
Anyway, if you don't already follow me, please consider it, as ebay will keep you updated whenever I list new items. PLEASE READ...
A word about postage, I have lost out on postage quite signifficantly on some international sales, so if the item goes over £100 please wait for me to get an accurate postage quote, apologies in advance if this adds alittle time to the turnaround speed, but it's necessary to avoid huge fees! If it goes significantly over the postage stated, I ask that the buyer pay the excess. All items must be fully insured for their value. Most countries I haven't had problems with the excess postage costs, but have found that sending expensive items to Korea and a few other countries very expensive,so if the buyer is not willing to pay the excess,I reserve the right to cancel the sale.
I am willing to combine postage as best I can, but as I mentioned before, if postage goes over the stated price, I ask that the buyer cover the excess, and as such be aware that often if the weight goes over 1kg (about 3 LPs) it's often cheaper to send in two seperate parcels, please bear this in mind when combined purchases!
My background: I have collected records since the 80s, and although I have had a few cut-downs, I still seem to have mountains of records in my collection! I have sold records both online an in person for about 20 years, and have many repeat customers from all over the world. I pride myself on being fair both in gradings and communications, adn I please ask that buyers do the same. I will not be held feedback hostage, though should, heaven forbid anyone be unhappy with their purchase, I will work with the buyer as best I can to find a solution. I have written detailed descriptions of each of these records, and so please don't bid purely off the photos.
Grading: I grade using the Record Collector Rare Record Grading system with the addition of NM, by which I mean a non-sealed but to my eyes perfect, possibly unplayed, or played incredibly carefully once or twice! I will not use the term M (Mint) unless the record is sealed, or there is some other demonstrable way of proving it is unplayed. Please bear in mind that in my gradings EX+ for example are incredibly good records, that you almost never see! I feel that I grade down if anything, please check my feedback for proof of this! I have sold many records (some incredibly rare ones in the 4 figures) over the years, so please rest assured that my gradings have been satisfactory so far! Though, if you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me before leaving negative feedback. I haven't had negative feedback so far, and don't intend to start now if I can at all help it!
TICKAWINDA Rosemary Lane MEGARARE Folk UK 1st Press 300 only PRIVATE PRESS
This, for those of you who don't already know is the rarest/most sought after LP on the Pennine label, from 1979 (PSS 153 LP), Tickawinda's only release, "Rosemary Lane", and it really is superb. The delivery of the 4 part harmonies and in particular the female harmonies, is superb really inventive and powerful arrangements. It is widely known that there were only 300 copies of this LP pressed ever. It was a semi-professional outfit of legendary status in the North West. One of the members, Jim, is an old friend, and lives in my home town, and is still active on the local folk scene. They were the house band for the legendary Rose and Crown folk club in Stalybridge.
In 1979 they went into the studio with a few others including Clive Gregson who produced the album, and shortly after started his career with Any Trouble, my Dad was also around the recording studio and was present for some of the recordings (he only told me this when I said I was going to sell it! He was involved in a few quite well known names of the area) and this is his copy. It was in advance of it being released and therefore never had a sleeve. Hence for this sale Ibought one of the now very sought after reissues and replaced it in that! The sessions were engineered by Paul Adshead at the Pennine Studio in Oldham, and mixed with Clive Gregson. Clive then went back not the studio the flowing year with Any Trouble, who were shortly after, signed to stiff, and Clive's career as a songwriter followed. However, whilst all 300 copies of this LP sold out very fast locally, the band didn't last much longer than the stocks of their one and only vinyl! Being semi-professional, their work/other life commitments conflicted too much, and they discontinued as a regular band…
Whilst some incredibly rare records can be a bit of a let down when you hear them, this one will definitely not let you down no matter how high you set the bar! Just listen to those haunting harmonies on Lyke Wake Dirge! In fact, listen to the whole album, this shortlived band fully deserved all the accolades they recieved then and now!

Recorded at Pennine Studios, Oldham, Engineered by Paul Adshead, Produced by Tickawinda/Gregson. Sleeve designed by Tickawinda.Track Listing, (as is on the sleeve and record- though not on the labels… as you may be aware, all original copies of this LP had the labels reversed, so what reads as Side 1 is actually Side 2 and vice-versa!)Side 1: Rosemry Lane, Lyke Wake Dirge, Galtee Farmer, The Weary Cutters, Go Your Way, And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda Side 2: John Barleycorn , Coalhole Cavalry, She Moves Through The Fair, Old Pendle, Young Man, Cold And Raw, The Blackleg Miner.
Record Condition Visually: Side 1 EX+ perfect mirror surfaces, betraying just a handful of the lightest withdrawal-style featherlight paper-lines when angled under strong direct light in an otherwise darkened room! Side 2 EX- Much like Side 1 in normal light, but with just a few more very light surface hairlines showing up under the scrutiny of strong direct light in an otherwise darkened room. I've done my best to capture them in the photos, but they really are very light. Really wonderful audio all round! Superb!
Sleeve Condition: EX+ (Please read above for the story behind this particular copy, it was given to my Dad by Clive Gregson in advance, andas such never got a sleeve, so I bought one of the now rather sought after reissues and used it asthe sleeve for this original record, as such apart from light disc indent, this sleeve is very crisp indeed!)
