"John R. Pinkett, Inc., Washington, DC and the Women's Committee of the Washington Performing Arts Society are proud to present this gift album to friends and benefactors at A SALUTE TO TODD DUNCAN on the occasion of his seventy-fifth birthday Saturday, February 11th, 1978, Washington DC.
George Gershwin, in collaboration with Du Bose Heyward and Ira Gershwin, created the first truly American music drama, "Porgy and Bess" which was produced in 1935.
Tod Duncan created the role of Porgy with such vitality and sensitivity that international acclaim followed. As concert artist, opera star, actor and vocal coach his career spanned five decades.
Mr. Duncan was the first president of the Washington Performing Arts Society."
