TODD RUNDGREN A Wizard A True Star LP '73, bearsville br2133, NM lp, NM lyric inner, ex shape cover with light rubs, diecut corner designed gatefold original lp vinyl, with printed color inner sleeve, 'LW1/LW1" matrix etches! (does not have the RL machine stamps, ...not sure as to whether or not the "LW" etches refer to ludwig mixes?)

A Wizard, a True Star is a progressive rock recording by todd rundrgren released in 1973.
The album, and especially the first side of the vinyl recording, is an extended medley after the fashion of the beatles late recordings; brief songs segue into one another, and the lyrics are frequently humorous or hallucinatory. The first side features a cover version of "Never Never Land" from the Broadway version of Peter Pan; the second side features a much-applauded medley of covers of r&bhits. Its length (55:56) pushed the limits of just how much music could fit on an lp; as a result, the sound quality of this LP is in most cases less than stellar and the volume lower. Acknowledging that on the album cover, which was packed with his handwritten notes, Rundgren advised listeners to crank up their Victrolas accordingly. The compact disc version was thought to avoid these difficulties. The first issue on vinyl (identifiable by the notation "STERLING RL" written in the trail-off), the only pressing made from the original master, has the best fidelity; finding one in near mint condition is not easy.

First issues of the vinyl LP included a "band aid" poem written by patti smith, a short bio about the album, and a postcard encouraging purchasers to send in their names to be included on a poster in Todd's next album. Reissues of the vinyl LP did not include any of these extras, and the cover was a standard square cover instead of die-cut.

Vinyl grading is usually based on the Goldmine standard and is as follows:
“SS” Still Sealed – For the collector that demands nothing but perfection.
“M” Mint - a near perfect, or unplayed record.
“NM” Near Mint - in factory fresh condition, like new.
EX+ - close to like new with only superficial signs of use that don't affect play. Will satisfy all but the most vain and demanding collector.
EX - a used, reasonable copy. Shows slight signs of wear.
VG+ - There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility a few skuffs and/or light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still quite nice.
VG - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise,still plays great.
Good - In the record world, "Good" is not good! From here on down, we're talking about beat-up records!
