TOE FAT - self titled

An overall lovely condition copy, with the glossy & underplayed vinyl and terrific stereo audio quality being the highlights, of this increasingly rare and sought after 1970 UK 1st press prog gem on the Parlophone label, PCS 7097

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   YEX 763 1G with stampers "1" and "1.1" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 2   YEX 764 1G with stampers "1" and "0" at 7 o'clock and 1 o'clock respectively

Both sides of the vinyl gleam with the original jet black lacquered sheen fully intact. The vinyl is flat and in normal daylight gives off a beautiful sheen and comes across as near perf3ct. Under a bright light, and with very close inspection, it is just possible to identify a few extremely wispy hairlines and superficial paper scuffs on both sides along with a slightly more visible 2cm scuff mark right at the beginning of side 2 along with a few scuff "dots" on the side 2 dead wax intro - all are non-feelable, surface only, and appear to be purely superficial (the truly excellent stereo sound quality supports this view). Clearly this record has been underplayed during the 51 years since it's manufacture and would grade the overall condition as excellent (EX).

The labels are near perfect. If you look really closely under a bright light you may just be able to detect a small and extremely faint spindle trail adjacent to the centre hole on the side 2 label..otherwise perfect.

The front-laminated, flipback Garrod and Lofthouse outer sleeve is graded as very good plus (VG+), though closer to "very good" than "excellent". The edges remain form with no obvious cardboard creasing at all though there is a 6cm diagonal surface crease towards the bottom left hand corner, and the only edge scuffing is a 3cm edge scuff in the middle of the top edge. There is some very mild fraying on the bottom third of the front side opening edge, a number of 1cm laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side, just the hint of some very mild ring wear on the front side towards the top edge, and some corner buffering/rubbing on each of the corners though slightly more so on the bottom right and top left corners. The reverse side is a solid very good with all text art work, and (like the front side) and colours intact and with no unwanted writing or doodles. There are just a few light "crinkles" on the flipbacks but these are non-intrusive. Definitely a solid very good, and still very presentable.

The audio quality is truly excellent (at least).  Great tone and clarity throughout with no distortion even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No sticks, jumps, repeats, sticks, nasty clicks, interference or obvious background crackle. You may come across the very occasional random and background light click which I can only put down to the odd speck of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage, and there is some very mild background crackle during the dead wax run-off on side 1 and the dead wax run-in for side 2, but this does nothing to diminish the overall truly excellent sound quality. This is rock (with a little prog thrown in for good measure) at it's very best - a superb album full of great riffs, anthems, pulsating guitar licks, and mind blowing lyrics with "The Wherefores And The Whys" and "Just Like Me" being true standouts. No wonder UK 1st pressings of this LP are so sought after.

Comes complete with original plain white "PATENT Nos..." and "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" inner sleeve, in great condition with no tears, seam splits or age discolouration and remaining fully functional. NOTE : I always insert the vinyl into a brand new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve for shipping purposes and in order to protect the original.

This LP is an absolute "MUST" for any serious rock/prog vinyl collection - great songs, great audio and only continuing to gain in value!

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
