Description

TOE FAT - self titled

A truly excellent condition copy with glossy underplayed vinyl, terrific stereo audio quality and lovely condition iconic outer sleeve, of this increasingly rare and sought after 1970 UK 1st press prog gem on the Parlophone label, PCS 7097

Matrix Numbers :    Side 1   YEX 763 1G with stampers "1" and "1.1" at 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock respectively

                                 Side 2   YEX 764 1G with stampers "1" and "0" at 11.30 o'clock and 5.30 o'clock respectively

Both sides of the nicely weighted vinyl gleam with the original jet black lacquered sheen and in normal daylight appear to be in virtually unmarked condition. With close inspection under a bright light it is possible to identify a few wispy paper scuff hairlines and the occasional very light paper scuff; and on side 1 a slightly more visible small area of light scuff marks which does result in some very light background crackle during the track 1 to track 2 intermission and the first 20 seconds of track 2 - very trivial. On side 2 there is an extremely faint 6cm line scuff at the beginning of track 1 and a small area of very, very light circular scuffing at the beginning of track 2 - you will need to look very hard to identify either of these trivial blemishes and neither has any impact upon the truly excellent audio quality, but I mention them nonetheless. The final blemish (too strong a word) is a tiny area of some "whiteness" in a groove towards the end of the final track on side 1 which results in a nanosecond of very, very faint crackle (unless you listen out for it you will miss it). Clearly this record has been sparingly played and well looked after and these trivial glitches take little away from its undoubted overall EXCELLENT (EX) condition.

If it wasn't for just a couple of small and very, very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label I would grade the condition of the labels as being near mint, so certainly an excellent plus (EX+) is in order!

The condition of the gorgeous front-side only laminated gatefold sleeve remains very impressive. All of the edges (including the spine) remain firm and unscuffed, each corner remains a near perfectly defined right angle with minimal rubbing, the opening edges are similarly rigid with no fraying or feathering; all of the colours and art work have retained their rich vibrancy and brilliant definition, and the spine remains in perfect condition with all spine text fully intact. There are just a few 1-2cm very light laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front side and a very light 5cm diagonal surface laminate crease towards the bottom right corner. There is no cardboard creasing, no areas of laminate lifting and no ring wear. The reverse side is near perfect - difficult to fault in fact, with the flipbacks in great shape, no discolouration, no storage marks and no unwanted writing/doodles. Certainly a strong EXCELLENT, possibly meriting an EXCELLENT PLUS!

The audio quality is superb. Barely any background crackle or other interference, no skips, repeats, pops, clicks, or jumps. Just perfect, with great tone and clarity throughout even at higher volume and frequency. Hard to believe that a 51 year old piece of vinyl such as this remains in such impressive condition and plays so beautifully - but it does, with every track making for a great listen. This is such an "under the radar" LP (at least during the time of original release) - the musicianship is absolutely top notch with some wonderful tracks and compelling guitar licks. EXCELLENT PLUS (EX+) on the audio quality front, that's for sure!

The track listing is :

Side 1

1. THAT'S MY LOVE FOR YOU

2. BAD SIDE OF THE MOON

3. NOBODY

4. THE WHEREFORES AND THE WHYS

5. BUT I'M WRONG

Side 2

1. JUST LIKE ME

2. JUST LIKE ALL THE REST

3. I CAN'T BELIEVE

4. WORKING NIGHTS

5. YOU TRIED TO TAKE IT ALL

Comes complete with the excellent condition original EMI advertising inner sleeve with no splits or tears, barely any creasing, virtually no age discolouration and of course remaining fully functional.

A truly excellent condition copy of this rare and highly sought after prog rock gem, which would grace any serious vinyl collection.

Note that I always insert the vinyl(s) into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the sleeve itself  to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.

A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 50 years from a variety of sources : my own collection, friends and family, car boot and garage sales, door-to-door leaflets, and even through placing an advert in my wife's costume hire shop window! My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy. If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige. There is NO RESERVE on this item. Richard

Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :

Mint  The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent  The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good  The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good  The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair  The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor  The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing

Bad  The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
