Houston singer Don Toliver lands his fifth album Octane following 2024's Hardstone Psycho - and it's the one that has finally pushed him to a US number one. Recorded partly up at Mount Wilson Observatory, the asterological setting infiltrates the record's sense of altitude and gloss, 18 tracks of alternative hip-hop and trap drama shaped with a sprawling cast starring Travis Scott, Yeat and Rema. 'Tiramisu', 'ATM' and 'E85' drip-feed the mood with syrupy hooks dealing in seduction, voiceshifting r&b flows, and a vague sense that Toliver is about to wed a cyborg. Outside the album, he's been everywhere - sneaker tie-ins at ComplexCon, late-night TV runs, and a chopped-up Choptane remix drop with DJ Candlestick - so he's come a long way from his original Houston mixtape origins.
