JRR J.R.R. TOLKIEN - "THE HOBBIT" Read by Nicol Williamson - aka MERLIN!
Four-record set. Original 1974 UK first pressing on Argo Records (ZPL 1196; stereo). There are several versions of this set. A later version has a black textured box, with title on a black spine. This is the original made-in-England version with laminated light-colored cover. Has the correct matrix numbers for first pressing, in the run-out grooves.
Records are all Near Mint as are the labels. Records are housed in their original poly-lined inner sleeves.
Box set-type outer box, with great front cover art, is Near Mint with none of the split seams or busted corners as are typically found! The only flaw to box is the name 'Jerry' on a small Dymo label attached to the back cover.
The only real flaw is that this apparently came with a booklet (like a libretto) which is not to be found. Sorry! Otherwise, this is superlative condition, with pristine vinyl, for the perfect listening experience.

From Wikipedia: 'Nicol Williamson (14 September 1936 – 16 December 2011) was a British actor once described by John Osborne as "the greatest actor since Marlon Brando". He was also described by Samuel Beckett as "touched by genius" and viewed by many critics as "the Hamlet of his generation" during the late 1960s.'
'In 1974, Williamson recorded an abridged reading of The Hobbit for Argo Records, with authorisation for abridgement provided by Tolkien's publisher. The recording was produced by Harley Usill.[12] According to his official website, Nicol himself re-edited the original script, removing many occurrences of "he said", "she said", and so on, as he felt that an over-reliance on descriptive narrative would not give the desired effect.'
