Up for auction is a stunning, collector-grade 1st US pressing of Tom Waits’ avant-garde masterpiece, Swordfishtrombones, released on Island Records in 1983. This highly sought-after audiophile copy was mastered at the legendary Kendun Recorders by engineer John Golden (stamped JS KENDUN in the dead wax) and pressed via the Allied/Specialty Records Corporation partnership. Hardcore Tom Waits completionists will be thrilled to find the incredibly rare, hand-etched secret dedication on Side A: "for Kathleen and Kelli’s one." The vinyl is in spectacular Near Mint (NM) condition, retaining its brilliant original factory gloss with flawless audio playback that beautifully handles the sparse, quiet dynamics of this legendary recording.
The outer jacket is a true archival find, grading at a strong Near Mint (NM) because it is still preserved in its original factory shrink wrap. The wrap has kept the delicate black cardboard cover perfectly shielded from the ring-wear, edge scuffs, and corner dings that ruin most surviving 1983 copies. Included is the original custom lyric inner sleeve, which remains clean and fully legible despite two standard, age-expected seam splits.
This collectible record will be shipped well padded in a heavy duty custom album box (with album removed from cover).
Feel free to reach out with any questions before purchase. Best, David
