REVIEW: Tom Waits brings an appropriately international flavor to his mostly instrumental score for Jim Jarmusch's globetrotting taxicab movie. As in all his music of the time, Waits' chief influence is Kurt Weill, and using horns and accordion among other instruments, he re-creates Weill's creepy, catchy style in 16 short tracks running almost 53 minutes. He and Kathleen Brennan contribute three songs with lyrics, which Waits performs in a calmer, more melodic way than those on some of his recent albums. Still, this soundtrack is very much in the style of Waits' Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs, and Franks Wild Years albums.-Allmusic.com

NOTE: This promo only 4 song EP combines the 3 vocal cuts from the soundtrack with 1 of the instrumental cuts. There is a mark near the beginning of the third song of side 1 that clicks a few times, but plays through, however, since this EP has the same 4 songs on both sides, it is a non issue, as side 2 appears clean.

The promotional versions of LPs are pressed FIRST, prior to commercial release. They are usually made DIRECTLY from the master tapes, resulting in SUPERIOR SOUND QUALITY. Common Stock copies are made from tapes sometimes several generations removed from the original masters. The promotional pressing can also be MIXED DIFFERENTLY to be better suited for in-store or on-air play. For these reasons, the promotional pressing is far more collectible than its common stock counterpart.
