Description
My Sunday bonus item this week is a nice copy of the ORIGINAL 1954 U.S. FOLKWAYS RECORDS MONAURAL LP titled 'New York 19' containing spontaneous recordings of authentic street sounds and voices of mid 1950s New York City as recorded by Tony Schwartz in his travels around New York City. It is Folkways Records catalog number (FP 58) FD 5558, blue Folkways labels. This album was conceived, recorded, and edited by Tony Schwartz. The original 12-page booklet of descriptive notes is present and included. Tracks listing as shown on the labels is as follows: Why Collect Recordings?: 'El Venadito' (Mexican Song), Exchange By Mail: Greetings From Afar / 'Wimoweh' From Africa / ....In New York 19, National Groups-Visitors, Students, Concert Hall: French Song And Comment / Rumanian Song And Comment / Indian Student / Nigerian Students / Israeli Song, Religion: Street Preacher / Jewish Prayer / Storefront Church / Gospel Church / Saints Day Festival, Translations: Italian / Juke Box Record-Puerto Rican, Street Musicians: Times Square Accordionist / Carnegie Hall Fiddler / Moondog, Selling: Salesman / Theatre Program / Newspapers / Flowers Auction / Insurance / Glasscutter / Pen, Children: Ring Game / Jump Rope / Bounce Ball / Clapping / Bongo Boys Basement Drums And Applause / Drummer's Comment, Sounds Of The City: Street Driller And Comment / 9th Avenue 'L' And Comment, Music In Speech: Grover / Elderly Woman. Condition of record is conservatively a real nice VG++ with just a few small surface and light sleeve marks which cannot be felt, and do not affect play. Condition of descriptive notes booklet it VG++ with the only real flaw being a little age discoloration. Condition of cover is a low to mid VG+ with a 6" split in the right side of the bottom edge and a 3" split in the right side of the top edge (I have carefully and neatly repaired these splits with thin pieces of clear tape), a little general age discoloration and contact wear, and a little general wear along the edges and on the corners. Cover has no splits, tears, stickers, or writing. This unusual LP would be a choice addition to any collection of the recordings of Tony Schwartz or New York City memoribilia collection! Winning bidder pays $3.00 media mail postage or actual priority mail postage within the U.S. I WILL SHIP WORLDWIDE - Uninsured first class international airmail postage to the UK or anyplace in Europe is $13.50 - Please e-mail me for postage rates to other areas outside the U.S. WINNING BIDDER PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH - IT PROBABLY WILL NOT GET HERE!
