John Barleycorn Must Die is the 1970 album by British rock band Traffic. As did most of their albums, it featured many different genres of music including art rock, jazz rock, and many psychedelic touches.
The album was initially intended by Steve Winwood to be a solo album, but when Chris Wood and Jim Capaldi joined him, it became Traffic once more. The album was originally dubbed "Mad Shadows".
After recording the album early in 1970, it was released by Island Records and United Artists in July of 1970. It became the first Traffic album to reach gold status.
TRAFFIC was a band from Birmingham, England, formed in early 1967 by Steve Winwood with Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason.
On offer here is a VERY rare LP (but especially in this stunning condition!!!!) by Traffic called "John Barleycorn Must Die" and is an ORIGINAL 1970 UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press Pink 'i' Island Label!!!! This album is part of an extremely well looked after collection of psych and prog albums that have barely been played and stored in optimum condition inside a polythene over sleeve for all of its life. The vinyl has been played once or twice maximum. In this condition it is of archive/museum condition and will be an upgrade for any collector!!
THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!! THIS IS ONE OF TRAFFIC'S RAREST LPs EVER AND VIRTUALLY NEVER TURNS UP FOR SALE!!!! JUST TRY AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!!!! BACK IN 1970 WHEN THIS LP WAS FIRST RELEASED - IT ONLY EVER SOLD IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS, AND WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DELETED!!!! AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY!!!! NOT ONLY THAT BUT THIS LP IS IN ABSOLUTELY SUPERB CONDITION - AND HAS BARELY BEEN PLAYED AT ALL!!!! JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THE PICTURES!!!! THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1970 UK 1ST PRESSING ON THE 1ST PRESS PINK 'i' ISLAND LABEL, 1ST PRESS INNER SLEEVE, AND 1ST PRESS 'E.J.DAY' GATEFOLD COVER!!!! THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND LIKE THIS - SO DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY!!!! This is the ORIGINAL UK Island 1st Pressing from 1970 and is in SUPERB condition!!!! The record is pressed on THICK quality vinyl. The Cat. No is ILPS 9116 on the 1st Press Island label (see picture) and is a UK Stereo 1st Pressing (there were NO Monos)!!!!
THE RECORD STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL 'JUST PRESSED' LOOK AND LOOKS AMAZING!!!! It is also great to find that the record plays as STUNNINGLY as the visual with NO pops, NO sticking, NO jumps, and barely ANY crackle AT ALL!!!! The sound quality is simply SUPERB with NO groovewear and NO distortion either!!!! The record must grade NM!!!! AWESOME RECORD!!!! Believe me this record is NOT overgraded in ANY way!!!! I use STRICT RC grading standards - it is not in my interest not to!!!! Brillant!!!! The record comes in its ORIGINAL 1st Press inner sleeve which is in SUPERB condition!!!! The ORIGINAL 1st Press 'E.J.Day' Gatefold Cover is in absolutely BRILLIANT condition!!!! The cover has NO bottom edge wear, NO sticker marks, barely ANY top edge wear AT ALL (virtually NONE!), NO spinal wear (SUPERB spine with PERFECT side words!), NO splits, only VERY slight corner wear, NO rips, NO tears, barely ANY creases AT ALL (cover is VERY flat looking indeed!), NO ring wear, NO rubbing, the usual touch of yellowing to the edges (unavoidable on this cover!), NO sticker tears, NO annotations, and NO writing!!!! The opening edges are beautifully straight with barely NO feathering AT ALL, ultra crisp!!!! Even the inside of the cover is in SUPERB condition with NO yellowing, barely ANY rubbing AT ALL, NO ring wear, NO grubbiness, and NO writing!!!! The cover must MEGA STRICTLY grade EX++
Vinyl: VG++ to EX. A wonderful and extremely heavy ISLAND vinyl with a beautiful sheen. The vinyl has only light paper retraction hairlines/traces and still looks supreme. The audio is out of this world and very powerful without anything untoward and will satisfy most observant collectors, as played on my Linn Sondek/Rotel/B&W audio set up. Needless to say there NO skips, NO jumps, NO clicks etc.
Gatefold Sleeve: EX. A great gatefold sleeve which has been very well preserved and only shows moderate edge wear but no creases. Initials in Dymo to the top right. The opening is still very crisp and the spine is partly legible. There is no creasing at all and the colours are still as bright as first issued. Just a repaired tiny seam split to the rear gate bottom. The album is a total gem though and absolutely ultra rare. Truly way above average condition! NO writing, NO marks.
