TRAFFIC Mr. Fantasy (Island ILPS 9061) Original UK Import 1st Pressing MINT-
Very RARE, original first UK pressing of Traffic`s debut album, "Mr. Fantasy" on Island Records (December 1967). Without a doubt one of the most important psychedelic records released in England, "Mr. Fantasy" veers from disillusionment to sheer ecstasy on tracks such as "Dear Mr. Fantasy", or entices the listener with the pure pop magic of "Coloured Rain". It remains one of the most charming and listenable artefacts of a time when music was still imbued with meaning.
GRADING:
Solid EX COVER. This is the fully laminated original cover with record insertion from within the gatefold, not the later standard issue.
Due to its frailty, the cover has a bit of general wear: A few creases to front and back, as well as some scuffing to the left-hand corners, top and bottom. There is also a bit of ring-wear ("record imprint"), especially to the back cover. Please see photos for details.
The inner sleeve of the gatefold cover has the original "wraparound" flaps that only original first pressings of "Mr. Fantasy" had.
EX+ RECORD. The record itself is in even better condition than the cover, with only light general hairlining, basically from sleeve removal. Any hairlining, where found, is superficial and, for the most part, inaudible.
I play-graded this record and, apart from the usual slight background crackle in between tracks, there is nothing of note. Most importantly, there are no skips, jumps or pops of any sort. In all, this is a very, very nice original copy.
The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "ILPS + 9061 + A" and "ILPS + 9061 + B", respectively. Interestingly, there are no suffixes to the stampers (as in "A-1" or "B-2"). Clearly therefore, this specific copy of "Mr. Fantasy" is a guaranteed original UK first pressing!
