Release date: December 1966.

On offer here is an EXTREMELY RARE original US issue of THE TRAVEL AGENCY’s only single on the obscure Hollywood-based TANQUERAY label.  The A-side “Time” is a JANGLY FOLK-ROCK tune with a SUPERB ‘EASTERN’ CHIMING GUITAR SOUND (some may even say ‘PSYCHEDELIC’), whilst the flip delivers quirky pop-rock with unusual time changes.  Fans of THE BYRDS “Eight Miles High” period should dig this absolute gem.

There is a shroud of mystery surrounding the 1966 and 1968 recordings.  Two references in US Billboard (9 Sep 1967, 30 Dec 1967) mention that a group with the same name were A&M recording artists.  A “TRAVEL AGENCY” appeared at The Kaleidoscope rock venue (Hollywood) in April 1968.  The LP cover (from December 1968) displays three members of the group in multiple ‘acid-inspired’ montages.  However, there are no individual member names shown on the cover and all of the compositions are credited to “THE TRAVEL AGENCY”.  DOES ANYONE KNOW THE REAL STORY BEHIND THIS GROUP???

VG++ visual: HIGHLY ACCEPTABLE copy with the lightest hairline scuffs only except * [see below]; audible: just PLAYED LOUD through 100 WATT speakers and it SOUNDS GREAT overall, with some underlying surface noise only; labels: very clean.

* This 45 has sustained a bump (at some stage) that has resulted in a minor crack beyond the end of the run-off groove (see digital pic).  But the actual playing surface IS NOT AFFECTED in any way!
