AUSTRALIAN 70’S ACID PSYCH

Here on offer we have one of Australia’s jewels in the crown acid psych gems by the obscure Trevor McNamara entitled Yeah Captain. Released on the independent Nationwide label in 1971 NLP029 this is one mega rare classic which hardly ever turns up. This is the first copy I’ve seen in over 10 years and I search everyday in his hometown!

The album is mostly acoustic folk with piano and guitar but occasionally it turns to pure wigged out hard psych with a band backing. Other instruments used include Moog, bass, drums, flute, cello and saxophone.

Trevor was originally in an Adelaide Band called Musick Express whose 1970 single Jackie’s Thing is an Aussie psych classic. Interestingly enough Trevor does a version of Jackie’s Thing on this album.

Condition:

The vinyl looks great with only a few hairlines. Unfortunately on one of the short tracks Riding to Athenbury there are 3 tiny jumps. For the life of me I can’t see why but nevertheless it does jump. All the other 19 tracks on the album play VG+ to Excellent. You’ll only hear an occasional click or pop but nothing intrusive.

The label on side 2 has had “little Johnny” scouring it with a pencil or similar so it has some of the song listing rubbed off but fortunately he didn’t get to the music.

The front cover has some ring wear and a few creases – VG+. The back cover has some staining – someone dropped their coffee on it but no major damage – G.

In all a great item of this mega rare acid psych genre.
