The Brazilian band Trio Mocoto were formed in 1968 in Sao Paulo and reformed in 2000. The group was seminal and often credited in creating the musical style that became known as samba rock or samba soul. The trio are comprised of Joao Parahyba, a vocalist and drummer who worked with the late great Suba, in conjunction with the vocalists/percussionists Nereu Gargalo and Skowa. Their second self titled album was released originally in 1973 on RGE Discos but receives a much needed reissue now on International and features funk, soul, bossa nova and samba styles all mixed beautifully with a distinct Brazilian style. Highly recommended listening.
