TUBBY HAYES unreleased acetate LP
This remarkable one-off find appears to be a cancelled Tempo LP from 1960. It contains six brilliant tracks, as follows:
SIDE ONE Tin Tin Deo Unidentified 12-Bar Theme Supper At Phil's
SIDE TWO Symphony Hook's Way The Trolley Song
They have since been reissued on CD as part of Tubby's Groove, implying that the musicians involved are Tubby Hayes (tenor sax, vibes), Terry Shannon (piano), Jeff Clyne (bass) and Phil Seamen (drums). I cannot confirm if these are identical performances.
It was owned by the legendary British jazz impresario Tony Hall, who also produced it. The reasons for its failure to appear are unclear, as it is top-quality British jazz, but it may be to do with Tubby's decision to sign with Philips, which is known to have upset Hall.
It is in clean, bright condition and plays very well, with the exception of Symphony, the first three-quarters of which are damaged and unplayable.
It comes in an original Decca inner sleeve, with 'MR. HADDY' written on the top-right corner; this is of course the legendary engineer Arthur Haddy.
Please note that this is sold as is: its provenance is impeccable, but being an acetate, it is fragile and needs to be looked after with great care. The less time it spends in the post, the better!
