TWILIGHTS OF BALI Lp BALINESISCHE IMPRESSIONEN MIT DEM MUNCHENER STUDIO ORCHESTER. Original German 1st pressing on SOUND STAR TON label (SST 0141), from 1979. Recorded in Munich at the Trixi -Tonstudio / produced by FREDERIC LUPINI and PIT VAN BERGEN for Sound-Star-Ton productions. Ultra-obscure and killer private press masterpiece from the German independent jazz underground. Spellbinding arrangements written by Catch Up Vol 1 & 2 bass player, Milan Pilar / fender rhodes session man, Hans Van Der Sys and Science Fiction Dance Party - Vampires Of Dartmoore producer cum multi-instrumentalist, Heribert Thusek. Beautiful and mystical rare groove with a distinct Indonesian lounge ambience. Music like an imaginary soundtrack cum exotic Library session. The horns have that Open Sky Unit / Second Direction / desirable euro jazz groove with shades of the Dino Piana - Alberto Baldan Bembo L'Amica Di Mia Madre OST trombone sound and hypnotic Heinz Von Moisy Irisation - Las Plantas session in places. Pilar's cosmic bass playing is also amazing and sometimes heavily treated with electronic FX. Expect a seductive tropical mix of modal - spiritual and funky jazz with Balinese - Gamelan percussion / wooden flute / hip hop rhythms / groovy cubop and indie latin fusion motifs / shimmering bells / gongs / shakers and trance-inducing atmospheres galore. Our soundclip opens with the unusual funky beats of SALAMAT MALAN followed the sublime modal jazz beauty of BEDAJA then several other important themes. BEDAJA / AJAM SABUNGAN / HATIKUBEN RINDU and GENG-GONG were reissued on a 12" EP as Bali Jazz Impressions by the Sonorama label but as you should all know by now, some compilers leave the best uncomped ;) Lots of oriental inspired loops and samples / unknown breaks / funky movements / gently decadent and experimental compositions. Brilliant mood music for fashion shows and club DJs. Much more stylish and sophisticated than the Giancarlo Barigozzi - Oriente and Rino De Filippi Oriente Oggi Italian Library. Our Twilights Of Bali item will be a revelation to many collectors worldwide as it never really comes up for sale. For sure, the hottest of all Milan Pilar studio projects. Superb production sound. Striking sleeve artwork with dedication to front sleeve by fender rhodes player and arranger, Hans Van Der Sys ;) Very rare Lp!!! Full tracklisting: KUMBALI / MARI BERSAMPAN / TERANG BULAN / TWILIGHT IN BESAICI / AJAM SABUNGAN / GENG-GONG / BEDAJA / SALAMAT MALAN / BAGSAWAN / SALUT TO BALI / GUNUNG BATU / SWINGING BALI / BERBAHAS - BAHAS / LEGONG / SULING / HATIKUBEN RINDU

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is in shiny VG+ condition overall regardless of hairlines / faint scuffs and a couple of audible scratches. Some pops and ticks to certain themes (as you can hear on our soundclip) but mostly from a small scratch that affects the "Mari Bersampan" theme (the last track on our soundclip). Light surface noises in general but to be expected for such a private pressing. Superb production sound overall. The laminated thin card sleeve is in strong VG+ condition with general wear. Ring creasing and some light ring wear marks / some other general crease lines to laminate from storage / corner wear / some light dents cum wear marks to edges and normal scuffing to front and back laminate. Ink fading down the spine side. Dedication in felt pen to front sleeve. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Very rare Lp!!!
