Hard-to-find classic LP in fantastic condition.
Background: This is the second last LP produced by Talk Talk. By this stage group had left their commercial roots behind and were finding their own musical direction. This record received critical acclaim but was not a commercial success - hence its rarity. The music recorded here is cutting-edge stuff, Talk Talk's influence upon musicians has exceeded the band's visibility among the general public. Along with the band Slint, Talk Talk are credited with inventing "post-rock" in this album, Spirit of Eden and their last Laughing Stock.
Bands and artists who have been influenced by Talk Talk include Portishead, Bark Psychosis, Catherine Wheel, Slowdive, Radiohead and DJ Shadow. Guy Garvey of the band Elbow has said: "Mark Hollis started from punk and by his own admission he had no musical ability. To go from only having the urge, to writing some of the most timeless, intricate and original music ever is as impressive as the moon landings for me."
Record: Plays very well indeed all the way through without any skips or jumps and has a lovely sheen. Of course, as some/all of the tracks are of an 'ambient' nature, there are very quiet passages throughout the album and, at certain times (on a good playing system) you can hear a little background noise. This is just the kind of thing that you would find on a new album and is certainly nothing to worry about. The quality of the sound is hard-to-beat and you will not be disappointed with the it.
Sleeve: Excellent. Sleeve is in nice shape, particularly as it is white and can be very difficult to keep clean but this has been looked after well and kept in a plastic sleeve.
