The VERY FIRST SINGLE by this "No Wave" New York City punk band, label: Migrane - CC-333.
NOT a re-release, NOT a "special collector's edition," purchased new by me in 1978, played once or twice to record to cassette, then slid into a vinyl sleeve where it's sat unhandled and unplayed to this day.
As of 02/19/2022 no other copies on offer on EBAY, four on DISCOGS (none in the US) on sale from 90 to 240 dollars.
I had this on offer last week- it did not sell with an opening bid of $60. Look on EBAY. No listings for this or their second single- the only singles they released. The second single "Baby Doll" I also have on offer. The EBAY stuff are reissues/new collectors editions. 60-100$. Check the internet- Discogs has a handful of international sellers asking 75$ and up....
Dissonant. Atonal. Unmelodic.
And despite those unlovely & unprepossessing qualities LOUD as F. You can't really take too much of it- they only released two singles, seven tracks, nine minutes total (on the aptly named MIGRAINE label). Then there were some live recordings from five shows in NYC and one in Toronto. They had an outsize influence, taking the do it yourself, anyone can ethos of punk right to the edge of a nihilistic brink. Someone had to stake out that territory and Lydia Lunch - guitar, and her Jerks- Bradly Field-drums & Jim Sclavunos- drums, James Chance- saxophone & Gordon Stevenson- bass (died of AIDS 1982 one of the East Village art communitie's first casulties)-
planted a flag that remains there to this day.
Lydia Lunch is an interesting character who went on to a myriad of collaborations and associations in the musical underground- Rowland S. Howard, Thurston Moore, Suicide, Henry Rollins, and Nick Cave. To this day she continues to work as a singer, actress, writer & poet.
