Description

Thad Jones (Debut DEB-127) first pressing of original release; mono

Jones (tpt) with, variously, Frank Wess (ts, fl); John Dennis, Hank Jones (p); Charles Mingus (b); and Kenny Clarke, Max Roach (d).

Recorded in august 1954 and march 1955.
Issue: The original Debut release in its first mono pressing.

Debut was the record label started by Charles and Celia Mingus, and Max Roach. Its catalog was later given to Celia, whose second husband reissued the music on Fantasy. The catalog has been sold since, but this session was issued on LP when Mingus and Roach still owned the company.

On back cover: "Debut Records, Inc. 331 W. 51st Street, N.Y.C. 19".

Side A runout: 127-A  19 H Side B runout: DEB 127-B 14 ["1Y"?] 1[1?]

Condition of Record: VG. Record is dirty; I will VPI clean it if desired. Stray marks and blemishes on both sides; side B has a scratch that might affect sound. I can listen to it if highest bidder wants. If sound is marred, I will be honest and say so before accepting payment.

LP front cover has a little ringwear. No dirt, writing, or other marks save a faint, one-inch score line above the J in Jones. Back cover shows its age, with some ringwear but no marks of any kind. Track list, personnel, and liner note all perfectly readable. Bottom of spine slightly bumped, with little chip; top quarter of spine has more chips, with top inch worn away. Bottom lengthwise edge has one-inch split, from open end of cover. Top lengthwise edge has four-inch split, also from open end of cover.

I'm an independent seller divesting his own record collection. I'm not selling from a store or warehouse, with multiple copies of titles, or on behalf of a professional collector.

Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination, by shipping method he chooses, and by insurance required (see: below); I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)

Insurance is mandatory on shipments to US addresses: The final price of the item determines the amount of insurance required. Please wait till I inform you of your total cost prior to submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be paid.

**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express has tracking. (Check USPS's website for shipping prices.) If you want a private-company shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction. First-Class-Package service, which doesn't include insurance, is an option; the shipping cost will be lower, but if your item doesn't arrive you have no recourse. The risk is yours.

Packing: The LP will be slipped in protective plastic sleeve and carefully wrapped, then placed in a standard, cardboard LP box. Please indicate any special instructions.

Payment: I accept Paypal. I also accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.

Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.

N A record known to have never been played. A CD that has never been removed from its jewel case.

NM A record or CD known or assumed to have been played. LP may have a surface fingerprint smudge or other minor blemish; it may have slight spindle wear. CD might have been played, but it and its booklet, and its case (or box), show little if any wear. Otherwise, item appears same as N in all respects.
VG++ More handling marks than on NM but should play like new.
VG+ No more than a few minor blemishes.
VG More than a few blemishes; may have a scratch. If so, will be described in detail.
