Description
An original very 1st press on UK Atlantic Red & Plum - difficult to find. Matrix A1/B1-A3/B1. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original USA printed heavy-card pasted cover. As I understand it 1st issue covers were imported at 1st issue. The great thing about the USA printed cover is the incredibly stiff card employed - and the lovely textured images inside. This really turns this title into a proper piece of artwork - superb! We will house the Lps in early 70's Decca poly-line inners for maximum protection.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I could make out just a few light marks per side, one light trail mark, and a couple of tiny semi-feelable marks in YDLM [that do sound - see detail below]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one noticeable deviation. An absolutely beautiful rendition. If you don't love this Lp..hell what's wrong with ya! Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Excellent audio as is required to do this classic title maximum justice. By and large a very clean signal rendition. Low-key tracks like 'Story Monday' - play real sweet. The only track which plays subpar is 'YDLM'. In the quiet noodley mid-section a couple of small marks cause a few ticks and a pop and some brief crackle. It is mostly apparent for about 1minute during the 19minute track. So, there's still 18 minutes of decent play on this track! Setting that one issue aside - expect a clean rendition and some pretty darn awesome audio. It's Atlantic - It's red and plum era... these guys knew how to master a good pressing. It's all there.. spin it...and take in the full glory of this awesome release.
Cover (Vg+) The USA covers do tend to take a bit of a battering over the years - and this example does exhibit a bit of edge wear as is common. It does, however, tick an awful lot of the boxes. Nice clean and flat surfaces with precious little sign of surface wear. This means that those iconic images on the front - are still there and untainted. The interior just looks fantastic - I have always been a big fan of the 1st issue presentation in the interior.. one word.. lush! As mentioned expect a bit of edge wear. At the top and bottom of the opening edge [front panel] the seems have split one inch. I won't repair - because it' quite frankly no big deal. Overall the cover retains full rigidity and remains a terrific looking original example.
Inners (Vg+) Are not original to the release. But rate at Vg+...and will do a fine job for you.
