The BEATLES BEATLES' HITS ORIGINAL 1964 7" EP AUSSIE-ONLY PS [LABEL VARIATION 3]

Description

 Just recently I bought a collection of Aussie-pressed Beatles records from a long-term collector who'd specialised in label variations...so if you're a Beatles tragic, it's fascinating stuff...many others of you will wonder what the fuss is about. It's a shame none of them are mint (or even close)...seems as long as he had one copy of each variation he didn't bother upgrading.

Anyway here then, is one of the items from that collection:

ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?:    No, but very close...original matt flipback cover (as have ALL of these early label variations)...it's the labels that differ here...amongst all the different variations, some ever so slightly.

This is the third pressing, from March, a.k.a. LABEL VARIATION 3 - and its stand-out identifying points are:

1. - the typesetting of the songwriters beneath all 4 song-titles has 'space-hyphen-space' between McCartney and Lennon ('McCartney - Lennon', as opposed to 'McCartney-Lennon' - the two spaces are not there on later variations)

2. - to the left of the Side One spindle-hole, the publishers are ESSEX and LEEDS MUSIC, the former is their logo, and the lettering of the latter is upright (not in italics)

3. - to the left of the Side Two spindle-hole, the publishers are LEEDS MUSIC and CASTLE MUSIC, and for the former the lettering is in italics, and for the latter it's upright (not in italics), with a divided silver line extending across both, above and below (all of these specifics appear differently on other pressings)

4. - across both sides, the 4 song titles are on one line and the songwriter credits, and publisher are on a separate line

5. - the typesetting of the song-titles are spaced differently to some other variations - on this one the words are further apart than on virtually ALL other pressings - no idea why, but this one is definitely differently spaced

CONDITION:

COVER: ( VG+[+] )...has minor ringwear...and equally minor scuffing on the edges and corners...on the back, there's a couple of small tears at top right (perhaps where a sticker's been removed)...and the song lengths have been written next to each song-title...there's also some additional red and green artwork added - quite carefully, I might add, and it doesn't look too bad at all (if you can get over the fact that it's not really meant to be there)...

RECORD: ( VG++ )...has LOTS of its original shine still, and just a few very light 'hair-line' marks only...it's a beautiful copy and plays accordingly...a great listen!!...

LABELS: (Side One: EX / Side Two: EX )...beautiful!...both labels would be closer to mint but for some further additional touching up with red and green pens - and again, if you can get over the fact that it's not really meant to be there, you could agree it actually looks better this way (purists will not agree of course)...
