These records are from my personal collection but I've run out of listening time and these will need to go to someone else to enjoy. These are some of the very best records produced in past 15 years and some of the best MoFi records I've ever heard yet.
These rival the earlier MoFi records in transparency and they all have an astounding amount of headroom. While most companies are still trying to figure out how to master digital to vinyl, the guys at MoFi are pushing the envelope of what we all know is simply better, the sound of an originally mastered tape. Then there's the safety tape versions that many of the new digital to vinyl reissues are made from today. These MoFi records are made from the best available TAPES. That's right I said tape, do yourself a favor and rediscover how great tape sounds.
All of these new MoFi records were made using some of the best tape decks available anywhere, tweaked out to perfection and engineered to be simply beautifully sublime. The remastering on some of these is quite conservative and that just affirms the truism that less is more, something that originally made MoFi great to begin with.
I had my doubts about MoFi, their direction and often wondered aloud how they could compete with the better european boutique labels but these test pressings serve as proof of how American records still serve as a benchmark to define high fidelity.
If you don't already know, these test pressing are hand pressed, sometimes by Mr. Hashimoto himself. They are made from virgin plates and the runs are very small, generally less than 50 test pressings are made of any one title, some runs are as few as 10. And forget any QA issues, I believe these MoFi test pressings are hands down the best records RTI has pressed this century.
