Description

Here's a strong copy of The Band's great second LP, featuring "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Up On Cripple Creek," among other classic tracks. More importantly, this copy is on the extremely rare rainbow Capitol label. Like most if not all rainbow label copies, this one has a cover with the "Gold Record Award" stamp, which is somewhat unusual, since one would think that the label variation would denote the earliest pressing. In either event, the cover on this copy grades solid VG+, with some seam wear, most notably in the bottom center. The cover is really quite meaningless, though, because gatefold copies of this LP are a dime a dozen. What matters is the disc, with the STAO-8-0132 catalog number both on the label and in the trail-off vinyl. (From the markings in the trail-off, it appears that this was originally to have been SKAO-8-0132, but the K has been struck through and replaced by a T). This disc grades strong Ex, with side two leaning toward M-. There is full gloss, but each side has a few whisper scuffs from sliding in and out of the original innersleeve. A very fine copy of a rare variation. Also one of the quintessential rock albums ever recorded. US shipping is $7 priority mail, plus optional insurance.
