Description
You may have seen copies of other Capitol records with the word “FREE” punched through the top right corner. That’s because when a new album came out, Capitol would often promote it by sending record stores a few copies meant to be given out as freebies on release day. Capitol would punch “FREE” in huge letters to make sure the stores didn’t try to turn around and sell them like regular stock. Knowing this (and the fact that it’s a Los Angeles pressing), this is likely to have been one of the first few copies of the album ever pressed on wax.
The disc has been exceptionally well taken care of and retains its glossy sheen as if it were just opened yesterday. I would grade it NM if it weren’t for a small mark on side B that causes some pops during “Diamond Head”.
The outer sleeve is still in the shrink wrap which has preserved its colors beautifully. There is a bit of minor wear here and there, a little foxing (see pictures). The shrink wrap has come a bit loose on the top right corner, leading me to give the outer sleeve a VG+ rating overall. The original inner sleeve is blank white paper (as is standard with this release) and also has “FREE” stamped through the corner.
First pressing 1968, Los Angeles pressing plant.
