Description
Here it is! The actual and only true first pressing of The Beach Boys very first appearance on record. This is the very rare and sought after “Candix #331” with no “Distributed By ERA” on the labels. Contrary to some popular belief this is the first pressing not the X Records press. The X is actually the second pressing made after this by The Beach Boys because Candix wasn’t repressing to meet local demand as the band became more popular locally and got some airplay. The pressings with ERA on the labels are 3rd or 4th pressings. This pressing is only found in the wild here in Southern California. In my experience the X pressing turns up more often locally than this 331 pressing. YOU ARE BUYING FROM A LIFELONG 45 COLLECTOR AND LONGTIME PROFESSIONAL RECORD DEALER NOT SOME YARD SALE FLIPPER.
RECORD HAS BEEN VPI CLEANED MANY TIMES ON A PROFESSIONAL CLEANING MACHINE BEFORE PLAY GRADING AND PHOTOS.
VISUAL CONDITION: Vinyl still has gloss. Visually and physically this graded at VG due to many surface scuffs and very light hairlines and one more large scuff on the Surfin side. (This does not produce any pops.) these marks are not really the feelable kind, more visual and on the surface and don’t go deep into the grooves. No warp, record is nice and flat. Label has ball point pen writing on it obviously. There are no visual signs of groove wear or damage. No buffing has been done on this, dealers who do that are frauds. (SEE LAST TWO PHOTOS WITH BOTH SIDES AGLED FOR CONDITION)
PLAYING CONDITION: Honestly, this record went way beyond my expectations. Both sides have been play tested in between VPI cleanings multiple times all the way through to dislodge matter in grooves. The fidelity is crisp and clear, it plays VG+! Vocals are crystal clear, background instrumentation is sharp, bass and guitar are sharp and clear, you hear the fingers sliding on the guitar strings like on a CD. There is no excessive surface noise other than what we hear on an average VG+ 50s / early 60s 45. This plays awesome sounds the same as the VG+ ERA press in my collection. None of the marks produce any loud pops. As a fellow collector I would be fine with this as my playing copy to own. Plays clean!
