Following EMI's acquisition of United Artists Records in August 1980, the soundtrack version of A Hard Day's Night was reissued in the US on the Capitol label. In accordance with established practice, Capitol made the tapes available to worldwide EMI subsidiaries, an option picked-up by EMI Australia, who subsequently released the album on 27 July 1981. The album comprised a mixture of vocal and instrumental tracks from the 1964 movie.The album appears to have been withdrawn within the year, as no copies have been confirmed on the post-1982 silver/black Parlophone label.
Like the US release, the instrumental tracks are presented in stereo but The Beatles' tracks are 'electronically rechannelled stereo' (‘ping-pong’ aural effect) derived from the mono mixes.
