Description
An original very 1st STEREO press of AHDN on the UK Parlophone label. Matrix 1/1. Remember that the Stereo 1st press on this title is far harder to source than the mono format. In 1964 stereo was still very much in its infancy. 'Parlophone' mentioned in the perimeter text and 'recording 1st pub' still exhibiting. Also note how the font employed is the chubby very earliest design - with the 'O' in 'Stereo' reaching right to the end of 'E' in Parlophone. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Stereo 1st issue cover. There's also an Emitex inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In superb condition for a '64 1st press despite having seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection there are a good few light marks per side - but nothing heavy or nasty looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with perhaps one minor deviation. Remember that these '64 copies are super heavy pressed and can easily handle a few marks. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio come across with excellent clarity. On testing I was impressed by just how darn good this copy sounds. Much of the original vibrancy is still there. Background interference is infrequent and minimal. Playback, even after all this time, is excellent. Even those lower-key tracks play really sweet. I really can't knock it... Expect a few crackles in a couple of isolated spots per side, maybe one single tick per side [at worst]..but otherwise...cool clean audio. Sweet! Please note one of the labels has been signed - it's almost invisible to the naked eye.
Cover (Vg) Not up to the standard of the vinyl, but remember that this 1st issue is difficult to track down. A perfectly respectable copy with only one noticeable issue. Down in the left corner - there's one c.m. cut away. The front is looking pretty good without ageing and just a few thumbnail creases. The rear is exhibiting a bit of ageing in places - but it's by no means excessive. There's edge wear in places and the first two inches of the bottom edge from the opening has split [I have tape repaired]. The spine is ok with text all legible - apart from right at that bottom end. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing a couple of slight tears, but no side splits.
