Description

Here is a VERY RARE BEATLES LP to go from my vinyl collection to the collection of the high bidder.

In this auction:

  • A HARD DAY’S NIGHT Original Motion Picture Sound Track” LP by The Beatles

  • This is a STEREO PRESSING.

  • This Beatles LP title was originally issued on the United Artists label June 26, 1964 with catalog number UAS 6366 for the Stereo issue.

  • HOWEVER, the LP in this auction is the VERY RARE CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSING that was issued in December, 1966.

  • It has the Capitol Record Club Catalog Number ST 90828 printed on the bottom of the spine, at the top right corner of the rear cover and on the labels.

  • Furthermore, the United Artists labels also have “Mfd. By Capitol Records, Inc. U.S.A.” printed on them which also designates this LP to be a Capitol Record Club issue.

  • This Beatles title was the only Capitol Record Club LP to be issued both in Mono (monaural) and in Stereo. The LP in this auction is the STEREO PRESSING.

  • The Covers for both the Mono and Stereo issues of this Capitol Record Club LP have WHITE BORDERS which was not present on the standard United Artists issues.

  • The Beatles’ CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSINGS have become VERY SOUGHT AFTER for their RARITY due to the very limited quantities pressed. You HAD to be a member of the record club to originally buy and have this LP shipped to you!! You could NOT walk into a record store and purchase it off the rack.

  • And this CAPITOL RECORD CLUB PRESSING is among the rarest of all of the Record Club pressings. From my reading, “The Beatles Second Album” (ST-8-2080), “A Hard Day’s Night” (Mono pressing T-90828) and “A Hard Day’s Night” (Stereo pressing ST-90828) are the rarest of the Capitol Record Club pressings.

  • This Record Club vinyl comes with its CUSTOM RECORD CLUB COVER!! The COVER has a WHITE BORDER with ST 90828 printed on the rear cover at top right and on the lower portion of the spine.

  • The COVER is OVERALL in NICE VG+ CONDITION. There is VERY LIGHT overall wear on the front and rear slicks and very light wear on the corners. There are a couple of small light “pushes” on the bottom left and right corners. The top and bottom seams and the spine are NICE and STRONG without any wear at all. (I’ve included images of the seams and spine.) There is NO CRACKING/FLAKING on the seams, NO SEAM SPLITS, NO RING WEAR, NO TEARS, and NO WRITING on the cover.

Please note that there are two very light surface parallel cuts on the left side of the cover near the spine that run from Paul’s hair upward through and beside the “H” in “HARD” and continues upward on the left “leg” of the “H” in “THE” up through the “GI” in “ORIGINAL” to join and end at a point just above the “GI”. These are SURFACE CUTS that are NOT DEEP at all. As you can by checking the images of the cover, they are not particularly noticeable and do not really detract from the front cover images, but they would likely affect the VG+ overall cover grade.

You can see that the front cover slick is not properly positioned. By its being shifted somewhat upward and to the right, there is more of the white borders showing on the left side and on the bottom. (Clearly, this occurred in the factory at the time of production and should not really diminish the value of this Capitol Record Club LP due to its rarity.)

  • The VINYL is in NICE VG CONDITION with a number of light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs (none “feel-able”). The vinyl has lots of gloss, and, as you can see in the images, the Capitol Record Club Labels are NICE and CLEAN.

If you are missing this one from your vinyl collection (and many of you probably are), here’s your chance to add it if you are the high bidder. In more than 4 decades of collecting Beatles LPs and memorabilia, this is only the second copy I have ever seen/had.

(NOTE: I sometimes place a reserve price on an LP like this one. But I have skipped the reserve price on this LP, because I think that those who will bid on It really know its value and rarity and will bid accordingly.)

Thanks to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels for some information about this LP.
