This is the first U.S. pressing of the legendary “Jolly What!” album, issued by Vee-Jay Records in early 1964, pairing four Beatles tracks with eight by English crooner Frank Ifield.
Often described as one of the rarest Beatles LPs ever sold commercially, this “cartoon-cover” version (featuring the red caricature illustration instead of the later portrait cover) was produced in extremely limited quantities before being withdrawn.
Because Vee-Jay lost Beatles’ licensing rights shortly after release, only a few thousand copies—perhaps fewer than 6,000—were ever distributed. Most were deleted or replaced by the later Frank Ifield portrait cover variant.

The album itself compiles the Beatles’ early 1963 Vee-Jay masters (“Please Please Me,” “From Me to You,” “Ask Me Why,” and “Thank You Girl”) alongside Ifield’s pre-Beatles vocal hits. The title “On Stage” is misleading—none of these recordings are live.
The labels feature the rainbow-rim Vee-Jay logo with “brackets” logo (oval VJ) and the correct VJLP 1085 catalog number.
