1980 UK WORLD RECORD CLUB 8 LP BOXED SET
**SIGNED BY PAUL McCARTNEY**
Released in November 1980 by EMI via its Mail Order "World Records" subsiduary, this set comprises eight chronologically arranged compiled LPs. Each cover bears an appropriate period photograph plus a well-written biography of the period by Hugh Marshall on the rear panel.The set was heavily promoted in the press at the time and sold for a respectable price of £29.75. It was one of the first EMI compilations to include something for the serious collector as it featured a selection of rare stereo mixes and variants which had never been issued in the UK. Among them are the 'high-hat' introduction to 'All My Loving', 'I Am The Walrus' with the extra bar, 'Penny Lane' with the US promo 'horn ending' and the extended riff at the end of 'And I Love Her'. The sound quality throughout is of an extremely high standard and contains some of the now deleted early pristine stereo mixes which are worth the price of admission alone. It was deleted in 1982.
However, the main highlight of this set is that it is possibly the only copy in existance signed by Paul McCartney.
The wonderfully clear and unhurried signature with the humerous 'WOZ ERE!' is strikingly placed on the underside of the upper lid above the tracklisting displaying 124 Beatles song titles.
It is unlikely that such a similar piece exists or will be offered for sale again.
The signature's authenticity is confirmed by the presence of a letter of authenticity from worldwide authority on Beatles autographs, Frank Caiazzo.
The box contains 8 MINT/UNPLAYED LPs on the '2-EMI-Box' silver and black Parlophone label: SM 701-8
Each is housed within individually designed fully laminated covers complete with original white poly-lined inner-sleeves.
Box: EXCELLENT
The outside if the box bears some minor storagewear and a tiny pen mark to the extreme lower right corner. However it is overall strong and clean with no significant or major faults.
The signed underside of the lid is bright and undamaged, displaying just two minor blemishes (beneath the side 3 tracklist and to the right of 7).
There is a small tear to the semi-circular cut-out on the front of the lower tray, but no other wear or damage.
The lower edge of the upper-lid has a white printed cataloguing sticker applied to it which reads: 'Special The Beatles Box HRS'.
The lid is still firmly attached to the lower tray with no signs of splitting to the hinge.
All discs have the same label design, as shown above, and are all in the same condition.
